INTERIOR DESIGNER / Dallas, TX

Full-Time, In-Office

POSITION OVERVIEW

Pulp Design Studios is looking for an Interior Designer with a formal education and/or proven work experience in interior design with demonstrated technical expertise. The designer must possess the hustle of hospitality design, but the passion for detail and client satisfaction of residential design. A self-driven passion and curiosity for design, the client experience, and attention to detail is essential. 

The Interior Designer will provide project design support to the Principal and Senior Interior Designers on projects from inception to final installation. Every member of the Pulp team has a “can-do” attitude and no task is too big or small. This position will also assist in managing junior staff; supporting and empowering them in their growth. 

The designer must come in with the openness to learn the carefully curated processes and procedures implemented by Pulp over the years, but the initiative to constantly be making things better and more streamlined. The Pulp aesthetic is focused on a flair for the unexpected and the function and longevity of intentional design. Essentially every project takes on two clients, the actual client and Pulp itself. 

This position is interviewing immediately with a start date (flexible) as soon as possible. This is a full-time staff position with paid time off, bonus structure, health and wellness benefits, cell phone reimbursement and more. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Interior Designer will have a high level of responsibility towards the Lead Designer of the projects they are assisting in and will help with the creation and execution of a project’s comprehensive interiors scheme. The goal of this position is to be a team player for the design, selection, and specification of all FF&E. The Interior Designer is required to have an extreme eye for creativity and unique design solutions that are proactively curated.

The Interior Designer key responsibilities are as follows, but not limited to: 

  • Reflecting the Pulp attitude and service, our Interior Designer will act as a liaison between Principals and Senior staff, vendors, clients, and consultants.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining the schedule/timeline of the job to ensure all parties have the same expectations
  • Assist in preparing client proposals for approval and purchasing
  • Update and be the steward of client budgets and specifications
  • Aid in review of and approve shop drawings
  • Track design client invoices and payments
  • Provide exceptional customer service. Anticipating the needs of our clients, timely responses and going above and beyond is key to your success at Pulp.
  • Provide clear, proactive, direct, frequent communication and interface with teammates
  • Establish positive, professional client, contractor, and vendor relations
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical, design, and installation issues
  • Perform site measurements and collect accurate notes, photos, etc.
  • Review shop drawings and work with vendors to ensure the desired vision
  • Troubleshoot and address problems in a pro-active, professional manner
  • Create 3D designs, architectural models, renderings, and drawings 
  • Create 3D designs for bathrooms, kitchens, and furniture layouts
  • Design and create construction drawings for custom built-ins and furniture
  • Research specifications required for drawings
  • Develop floor plans, elevations, and CAD drawings
  • Create client mood boards, presentations, and specifications 
  • Designs are innovative, highly creative, and produce a wow factor upon review
  • Research and select materials, finishes, furnishings, fixtures 
  • Research materials, furnishings, fixtures, and finishes
  • Call showrooms for pricing, check stock, lead-time, request CFAs, etc.
  • Select materials and furnishings within profit margin guidelines
  • Track orders and communicate with the client and design team 
  • Purchase projects, including follow-up with vendors and workrooms to confirm/expedite orders
  • Update status reports on a weekly basis
  • Coordinate pickups and deliveries with vendors (to warehouse and job sites)
  • Performs other job-related duties as needed

The candidate must be physically able to perform various installation project requirements such as lifting, standing for long periods and other physical duties.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • 4-year Interior Design degree from an accredited college or university, similar proven education or work experience may be accepted
  • At least 2-3 years of Interior Designer experience with a focus on residential interiors
  • Experience with independent, on-site construction projects and general contractor coordination
  • 1-2 years of Studio Designer, or comparable, experience is a must
  • Good familiarity with project tracking software (we use Basecamp), Zoom video conferencing, Dropbox
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in SketchUp is preferred
  • Quickly learn new processes, procedures, and user interfaces
  • Previous professional office experience, especially in a start-up culture, is a plus
  • Must have a working vehicle for office & client-related errands
  • Proficient Mac/Apple based user knowledge
