When it comes to creating sensational ceiling, the sky’s the limit for these inventive designers.

Frequently referred to as a room’s fifth wall, the ceiling should always be considered. While light fixtures can certainly be luminous additions to a room, designers wanting to really create visual impact and drama within a space turn their attention upward to make the entire ceiling a focal point. Taking this trend to new levels are Texas Design teams Laura U Interior Design, of Houston; Pulp Design Studios of Dallas and Seattle; and R Designs by Jane Reece of Austin. Whether opting to saturate this too unheralded area with bold paint to match specific furnishing, install mirrored tiles overhead to create a statement dining room or use Venetian plaster to soften a home’s rustic touches, these interior talents are making ceilings a high priority.

Lighting the Way

Designer Beth Dotolo of Pulp Design Studios says the goal for this University Park dining Room was to achieve just the right mixof modern and traditional. To make the small room appear larger, the contractor installed mirrored ceiling tiles, which the design team spent weeks distressing. In addition to opening up the space, the reflective surface also brings out the best of the glass chandelier from Murano. “It was about maximizing the chandelier and getting that reflection quality” Dotolo says.
