Life of Splendor :: Easter Sunday

modern easter sunday outfit

I’m planning to go for a netral and understated look this Easter Sunday! I just love all the muted tones and textures… Of course, what you wear isn’t the most important part of Easter Sunday, but when you have it figured out in advance your day will get started on a much better foot.

What do you think of modernizing the classic Easter Sunday attire?

This weekend was so super fantastic!! We kept busy, but it was doing all the things we wanted to do as a family… and I even snuck in a relaxing mani/pedi by myself. The whole weekend was great & much needed for all of us. Sometimes you just get so busy that you forget to make time to connect with the ones you love, and that is what this weekend was about.

How was your weekend?

Did you spend the weekend relaxing & connecting? Or, were you busy being busy like most of us?

5 Bits & Baubles…

bedlam of beefy, bright bazaar, hello splendor, the domestic gourmet, design work life

[Wear] I am totally smitten with this Cat Eye Glasses Ring that one of my favorite bloggers, Uncle Beefy, shared.

[Nest] Speaking of one of my favorite bloggers, I’m loving this Abigail Edwards Owl Wallpaper that Will of Bright.Bazaar posted. It would be perfection in Max’s room!

[Eat] Macaroni & Cheese Bites? Um, yes please! Thanks to The Domestic Gourmet for the amazing recipe… It’s now filed in my recipe book!

[Celebrate] Can you believe Hello, Splendor will be ONE YEAR OLD in ten days?? I am planning a week of celebrations here on the blog! It’s gonna be fun! Image via pinterest.

[Make] These Fourtune Teller Flowers have me reminiscing about the 80’s! I just love the story behind these, via designworklife… It’s all about connecting!

I am so excited about this weekend! It’s one of our first weekends to not have work so Kevin and I have some connecting planned… We’re taking Max on a picnic, we’re having dinner with family to start our investigation into the Dotolo family history, and we’re attending a baptism class to learn more about getting Max baptized. I’m looking forward to ALL of it!!

What do you have planned, friends??

Finding Splendor :: Take A Cooking Class

In my Finding Splendor pursuit, one of the challenges I wanted to take on was a cooking class. And, this is my first one to check off the list!! Instead of learning how to make a dish, I decided to learn some skills that I could actually put to use in the kitchen! So, along with my bff Carolina & my hubby Kevin, I took a Knife Skills class at our local foodie grocery store, Central Market.

The  class was incredible!! If you like to cook, I totally recommend you take a similar class. I feel more confident in the kitchen… and really kind of feel like a regular bad ass with a knife! This class has totally inspired me to take some more technique classes. So, once I save up the cash to take a three-part series at Sur La Table that Master Chef Anthony Bourdain developed, you’ll hear all about that, as well!

Have you learned anything inspiring lately??

If not, you should totally take a class like this… It is completely empowering!

The Splendid List :: Tax Time Splurge

the splendid list tax time refund

“I have always wanted the 1958 molded plywood armchair by Norman Cherner. Although I’m not a midcentury purist or anything, I love its lines and shape and think it would be a great piece of sculpture sitting in my home. Not sure if I could let my kids climb all over it though!”

-Sundeep of Designwali

“I have been wanting to buy a pair of cute oxford flats for sometime now… So, I thought these would be a great way to splurge with my tax refund! These shoes will be a very versatile item in my closet. & I love the vintage touch that they bring to any outfit! Plus, they will be perfect for every season! I can’t wait to start wearing them!”

-Sarah of On the Brightside

“As a tax accountant, I eat take out often.  Last year during a routine Chinese food lunch, I opened the fortune ‘Minutes are worth more than money.  Spend them wisely.’ Some of the best advice I’ve ever received! Needless to say, the fortune is taped to my desk to read daily.  So with my extra money, I would splurge on a glitzy Michael Kors watch that helps me savor my minutes more wisely.”

-Kate of Be Merry, Kate

“I fell for this bikini for a number of reasons.

1. The colours are bright and scream summer. It’s been a bit chilly in Oklahoma lately, so summer=good.

2. After seeing photos of the  new Missoni hotel in Kuwait, I’m dying for a getaway. (I miss the Middle East like mad!) Considering my tax refund won’t come close to footing the bill for that excursion,  I’ll take the next best thing.

3. Who doesn’t love Missoni? The fashion house’s knits have been in style for ages. This bikini will see me through several summers of lakes and hopefully soon a beach!”

-Carissa of Mean Maharani

Thanks ladies!!

Well, I would love to share what I plan on splurging on… but, I have yet to even begin my taxes!! I can assure you I will be paying the government money, but I may just splurge for something for myself in defiance. Raise your hand if you feel the same way!

baby's first trip to emergency room, cut over eye in 16 month old

Last week was incredibly long… Kevin was out of town & I had a busy week in design! But, it was an amazing week. I had great design sessions, great installs, great progress, and happy clients. I just love when that happens!

But, then Saturday took a crazy turn when I had to take Max to the ER… If I ever wished Kevin was in town, it was then. And, of course, I was unrealisticly pissed at him for not being here! But, Max was fine! Just a little glue, in lieu of stitches, and we were golden. But, it was hard to watch!

Sunday was great! I picked Kevin up at the airport… we headed to brunch with friends, which was much more fun than it looks! Then we spent Sunday at home lounging. It felt good to have Kevin home…

How was your weekend??

5 Bits & Baubles…

hello splendor, bits and baubles, anthropologie, blackman cruz, cystic fibrosis foundation, ultraviolet

[Meet] Meet my clients, The Huffts, and see their home in the latest issue of DallasChild. I just love this family… and I LOVE their home. Sometimes I just wish I could live in the spaces I design. Be sure to sign up for our mailing list, too!!

[Wear] I’m totally wanting this skirt right now… it’s the perfect ‘pooch’ hider.

[Love] I took this video of Maxton earlier this week while Kevin was out of town. I’ve watched it SEVERAL times since. I can’t believe how big my little man is getting. (please ignore my makeupless face in the background)

[Lust] I’m dying for this Blackman Cruz lamp that Carolina blogged about on the Pulp blog earlier this week!

[Give] Thank you so much to everyone who either donated or mentioned my fundraiser this week. I really appreciate you: Christine, Meagan, Jessica, Hearts & Home, ag., Cam, & Kelly. AND, Laura, thank you for your awesome donation. If I left you out, let me know! I’ll make it up to you. If you want to donate you can do it here: DONATE.

Happy! Happy! Happy Friday!!

What are your plans for the weekend?? Jam-packed or some R+R??

Unbelievable!

Of all things for a blogger to ‘come down with’…

I have carpel tunnel syndrome!!

Would you believe it??

Well, luckily, things could be much worse! Just a wrist brace & some anti-inflammatory pills and hopefully I’ll be back to normal in a few weeks!

But, don’t worry… you can’t get rid of me that easily!

I’ll still be blogging up a storm, while on the hunt for a way to make a wrist brace stylish.

Ideas??

Has anyone else ever had carpel tunnel?? Tips? Tricks?

Life of Splendor :: Dreaming of Vacation

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a little pent up! Too much to do & not enough time to do it… I am just dreaming of being in a hammock somewhere, looking fancy, with a cocktail in my hand.

Who else needs a getaway?? Even if you’re only dreaming…

If you could be anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
