Postcards from Frank Underground…

Have you ever had an underground dining experience?? Well, I was in Dallas last week for some Pulp business and Carolina and I attended our first underground dinner. I introduced you to my dear friend JK more than once. You may remember when she was on a show called MasterChef on FOX (not to mention a member of The Polyphonic Spree, author of Perfect Last Bite, and food stylist extraordinaire). Since being a finalist on the show, she and a fellow cast-mate, Ben Starr, turned a dream she has had for years into a reality. Frank. food, to the point was born and since launching earlier this year, it has grown into an underground phenomenon that is so sought-after that they’re now selecting diners based on the lottery system. There are a few things that are important to Jennie & Ben that make Frank. unique.

First and foremost, it’s all about the food. It’s meant to be straightforward, honest, local (even sometimes rare), with each dish being true to the ingredients. The goal is to put thought and love into every dish in a way that can’t be accomplished in a standard restaurant kitchen. Secondly, it’s meant to be an intimate and communal experience where people are brought together, not knowing each other previously so that you leave enriched with a new experience.

At the close of the night, I left feeling full and happy. I met new friends, tried new food, and went home with more than just a meal… It was truly an experience.

And, more than that, I also left feeling a huge sense of pride for my dear friend who has turned something she was passionate about into something that she could share with others. The passion truly shows in every thought out detail!
