Inspired by a Boston restaurant, Howard envisioned a cool space that would reflect the same traditional-modern mix that his menu bears. That’s where Beth Dotolo and Carolina Gentry of Dallas-based Pulp Design Studios came in; both have Southlake connections and they took cues from the areas itself as well as from Howard’s culinary style. “We wanted the atmosphere to feel upscale while still appealing to the families in Southlake,” says Gentry. “We also wanted to give adults a sexy place to spend the evening on a date night.”
The designers divided the cavernous space into a main dining room a large round booth that doubles as a chef’s table, a private dining room; and 1 large U-shaped bar that’s tucked into a lounge area with its own patio, where the seating area is accented with bamboo planted in stainless-steel troughs. Inside, custom lanterns hang overhead, and slate-look floors are underfoot. Red front doors and geometric room dividers evoke traditional Asian design, while long silky curtains and over-sized booths make the space feel sumptuous. A combination of modern and traditional artwork keeps it interesting. “We love how the space affects your mood right when you walk in,” says Gentry.
