A Social Thread Review :: Local Natives

One of the many things that I love about music is that a song or an album can take you to a totally different place or time. As I get older, I learn that I’m not a very high impact person. Honestly, most of the time I wish I could turn off my phone, turn up the radio and drive somewhere where I know nobody and just get lost for a few days. When I watched the video for the song Who Knows Who Cares by LA band Local Natives it made me almost euphorically happy. I love the totally carefree feeling of the video where the members of the band (and their shockingly good looking group of friends) go out into the country to play a little music and blow off some steam for a day.

I had the luck of catching the Local Natives at Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas this last spring. The show absolutely blew me away. They’re incredible musicians and they have a really happy positive vibe to them. My favorite part about their music though are the gorgeous three-part-harmonies. Lead singers Taylor Rice’s voice is rarely heard by itself, guitar player Kelcey Ayer and keyboardist Ryan Hahn almost always accompany it. Their debut album Gorilla Manor is in my top five of the year. My favorites on the album are Airplanes, Cubism Dream, and Who Knows Who Cares. If they come to your town, check them out live or at least pick up their album. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
