Our 10 Favorite Interior Design Trends Kicking Off Fall

Interior Trends to Look for in Fall 2018

While it may still feel like summer outside, we’re heading into a new season which brings a wealth of new trends and styles. In true Pulp fashion, we’re kicking off a new month with a round-up of the 10 trends and materials we’re loving most this month.

Fall 2018 Interior Design Trends.001

Fashion inspiration is plentiful and we are completely in love with Dior‘s version of rose colored glasses. Any style statement, whether fashion or interiors, that takes a bold spirit is one that we can jump on board with!

Fall 2018 Interior Design Trends.002

We know, we know, we’ve said it before, but we’re going to say it again. Tonal greens and blues are the hottest color trend of the year, and you’re about to see a lot more of them as we head into fall. Just look at this amazing shower by Charles Zana and Julie De Libran, photographed by Ambroise Tezenas for Architectural Digest! And the restaurant designed by Foolscap Studio… amazing!

Unique tile is one certain way to make an impact in a space and we’ve had our eyes glued to the Ermanno tile from Ann Sacks. We’re all about layering texture throughout our interior design clients’ spaces, which can be done through much more than just textiles — this tile is proof!

Details are everything, especially in places they are often forgotten… like the doors! It’s the subtle details, like the brass inlay in the door, that really elevates the design of this space, by Eggersmann spotted in Modern Luxury Interiors Texas.

Figurative forms are in everywhere we look. We found these amazing earrings at Prism, a local boutique in Seattle, and had to pick them up. Inspiration for interiors comes from everywhere we look!

Linear lines are so last month… In all seriousness, we love seeing such stunning structural innovation. Interior design, and the trends that inspire, span far beyond just furnishings, so we cannot get enough of this space designed by The System Lab. Gucci vibes, anyone? Our lovely Schumacher rep just showed us this new wallcovering and we are obsessed. We are all here for a fashion-forward reptile print.

We’re seeing a ton of intersection between fashion and interior trends this month, so to keep the momentum going, shearling had to make our top 10 list this month. Placed beautifully in this space designed by Charles Zana and Julie De Libran, a shearling textile brings all the right touches of coziness to interiors. Design is powerful — it can totally transform the way you live in your space and can be used as a profound storytelling mechanism. William Abranowicz photographs the deeply impactful nature of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, exemplifying the depth created when architecture and history meet.

First Look: Building a Transitional Home with Pulp Flair in Woodinville, Washington

An Inside Look at the Interior Design Process

We are fresh from a site visit at one of our Seattle area projects and were inspired to share a first look at the beauty we’re creating for our wonderful clients! See a breakdown of the design process behind a new Pulp clients’ forever home in the works…

Step One: Consultation + Intake

Woodinville Interior Design Process.003

Q: WHO IS THE CLIENT AND WHAT IS THEIR SCOPE OF WORK?

These clients are a young family of four who live in beautiful Woodinville, Washington. With two kids and a booze company, our clients decided it was time to build a fully-customized forever home.  The entire family loves the outdoors, so their home is going to the perfect spot to spend the day outside, while having a comfortable and cozy interior to land at the end of the day.

We’re doing it all for this project — that means everything from the interior and exterior finishes, to an entire home of new furnishings. Our clients are only keeping a few pieces from their current home so we really got to start from the beginning and create a fresh vision for their new home.

Woodinville Interior Design Process.004

Q: WHY DID THE CLIENT DECIDE TO HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER RATHER THAN TAKING THE PROJECT ON THEMSELVES?

Our clients are building their home from the ground up and starting from scratch, which is a huge project for anyone. The momentum on their project slowed down when they started to get burned out from all the decision making a project of this scale requires, and knew they needed to bring in help to do it right. They knew what they wanted for their home when they saw it, but didn’t know just how good it could be until we started showing them our vision for their home.

Step Two: The Design Phase

We started really getting to know who they are, their vision of their home and how they tend to “do life” in each room. Then we started by gathering inspiration from our clients in the form of a Pinterest board and began to collaborate on the design between our offices.

Q: WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE NEW DESIGN?

We’re creating a luxurious, warm and comfortable home for our clients that will feel like the type of lodge everyone dreams of vacationing to for a rustic weekend in the mountains.  His taste leans towards Suncadia lodge style, and hers is transitional and classical with plenty of comfort, so we’re coming in to take their individual styles and create a unique blend that’s polished, but warm. Our clients also love to entertain, so their new home will be full of personality and complete with an outdoor entertaining space, pool, state-of-the-art plumbing fixtures and tons of texture.

Q: WHAT IS A UNIQUE DESIGN CHALLENGE AND HOW IS PULP SOLVING THE PROBLEM?

Because our clients brought us on early in the project, we’ve been able to ensure that the end result works perfectly with how they envision their interiors. One of the many benefits of bringing on your designer before you build, or very early in the process! We do have plans for a shuffleboard table that will have to go through a window, so stay tuned for photos when we reach install phase!

Step Three: Install + Execution

Our clients’ home is currently under construction, so stayed tuned for progress updates in the coming months! With cabinets starting to go in, we are over the moon excited to see this home beginning to take shape!

The Designers’ List of Tried and True Neutral Paint Colors

The Best Neutral Paint Colors According to Interior Designers

Choosing paint colors can be tricky, especially if you don’t know how certain qualities of a space, like lighting, will impact the end result. It takes a trained eye to know which shade and finish will work best for the desired overall result, which is why our clients always feel a sense of relief when we take the reigns on these selections.

Designer paint tip — If you go the route of picking paint colors without the help of a designer, make sure you swatch in every room you plan to use the color and observe it throughout the day. Lighting changes everything, so you’ll want to see it in every environment!
