Mood Boosting Interior Design

There has been a lot of talk about “dopamine decor” in the design world, focusing on interiors that help boost your mood. As we enter the darker days of winter, we love to showcase how your home can give you that extra bit of chic style to elevate how you’re feeling. We’re experts at creating cozy spaces that make you want to stay home on cold winter days – or any other day of the year! Here are our top pro tips for setting the mood in your home.

1. Use the Psychology of Color

Of course the Pulp team loves color, but we also like to use it wisely. Color is definitely a way to boost your mood at home, but we also like to use colors that will brighten even the darkest winter weeks. If you look at the palette in the Seattle bathroom we designed above, you have to smile. Not only is that turquoise a major mood lifter, but when you add in all of that stark white it really makes a happy statement!

2. Lighten Up

The Dallas dining room above has a lot of deep black elements in it, but it isn’t a downer of a space! The key is to ensure that you’re smart about the light that enters a room. There is a lot of natural light in the room, but we also added a stunning light fixture and some under-cabinet lighting. However, the real pro tricks are in the details. There are a few light conductors that we designed into the space, like the brass rings on the custom table and the stunning mineral applied to the back of the bar’s wall. Those bounce light, too, which is key to keeping the mood bright at home!

3. Act Natural

Any natural materials – including real plants and flowers – are going to help keep the mood upbeat and cozy at home. That includes soft textures from sheepskin, warm wood beams, and cozy fabrics. Bring a little of the outdoors in for the winter months!

4. A Touch of the Unexpected

At Pulp, we love to add those unexpected touches that make you smile … or gasp! A little bit of whimsy will always set a fun mood at home. That could be through your art, through a bold flash of color, or from a giant gold duck in the bathroom. Think out of the box for those moments that set the stage in your home.
