The Pulp Family Thanksgiving Table

This Thanksgiving, our Pulp Design Studios interns put together a thanksgiving table scheme to emulate the styles of each of the senior members of Pulp’s design team. It was so fun to see how they saw us and our tastes. And, it was a great exercise for the interns to learn to understand the style of their ‘clients’. See what our interns, Alissa and Tara, pulled together for our Pulp family Thanksgiving table…

Showroom Tour: Global Views & Studio A at High Point

Pulp Design Studios - Global Views Studio A Showroom

Since our Pulp designers have returned home from High Point Furnishing Market we’ve been busy finding ways to incorporate all the latest goods and trends into our designs and seeing how we can bring the best value to our clients through those vendor relationships.

Global Views and Studio A, in particular, sponsored part of our trip to High Point this Fall. It makes sense, since we’ve been using their products on Pulp Design Studios’ projects for years! This market, we got to scope out all of their latest goodies and they did not disappoint. They are not just ‘on trend’, but they are setting the trends. Take a look at what we saw…

Global Views always presents an exceptional showroom and this fall the showroom was quite impressive. They really showcased this ink and copper trend impeccably! The new product introductions breathed new life into metallics, introducing copper unapologetically and contrasting it with rich ink blue colors. The result was a nod to vintage, but modern and warm enough to hold it’s own for today. The silhouettes of their pieces, especially the Anvil chair, was really something special and complimented the rest of their line beautifully. We were blown away!

And then we have Global Views’ counterpart, Studio A. They are the sister to Global Views, owning some of the same dramatic qualities but unique in it’s own way. Studio A does neutrals, textures, and artifacts beautifully bringing a unique earthy-glam quality to all their pieces. This market, they introduced color. Muted tones of turquoise and orange complimented their existing line beautifully and gave it a refreshing vibrance.

A big thanks, again, to Global Views and Studio A for bringing us to High Point. We couldn’t be more pleased to have partnered with a company we work with so closely.

5 Must-Haves for the Home: Beth’s November 2014 Picks

pulp design studios, stylish must-haves, must haves for the home

I’m rounding up some of my favorite things to make my life at home a little more enjoyable this November, and I’m sharing them with you!

1. With the time change in full effect, we could all use a stylish way to brighten up our spaces. These bad boys are set to be featured in a national magazine later this year, so get your hands on them while they’re hot! Dalton Brass Lamp, $416

2. One of my very favorite buys from High Point Market this fall was my cozy new throw. You can find me snuggled up by the fire in mine and enjoying a good cocktail this fall. Plus, it makes a great gift! Charcoal Herringbone Throw, $138

3. I never claimed to have sophisticated taste in reading… But, a Pulp Design Studios client recently recommended the All Souls Trilogy to me and I can’t put it down. I think it falls under the ‘paranormal teen romance for grown-ups’ genre, and it’s a must-read! Don’t judge. Discovery of Witches, $11

4. The holidays are an amazing time, but can also be filled with stress! My massage therapist recently recommended this flower essence remedy to me for stress. Hey, I’ll try anything once… and, so far, it seems to be helping! Either that or it’s all in my head- but, I’ll take that, too. Rescue Remedy, $14

5. We just received some of the new goodies we purchased from High Point in the office and I’m in love with our new accessories. This brass sculpture is a favorite, and now available in our shop! Intersecting Brass Sculpture, $98

Enjoy and Happy November!

High Point Market Vendor Spotlight: French Heritage

French Heritage Pulp Design Studios

As we continue our countdown to High Point Furnishing Market, where a trio of our Pulp designers are headed this Friday, we’re excited to share another vendor spotlight! High Point has become such an essential part of our design firm because each Spring and Fall. We get to see the latest and greatest pieces for our clients. We get to build better relationships with our vendors and reps to bring the best value to our clients. And, most importantly, we get to sit in, touch, and feel all the amazing goods our clients are trusting us to purchase and bring in to their homes. It’s an exciting time for us to get inspired, connect, and see all the newest goods…

This Fall we are so please to announce that French Heritage has sponsored our visit to High Point! While French Heritage provides furnishings to some of the biggest players in retail, we were excited to learn more about their brand and all of the amazing opportunities we have to utilize their line, as designers.

French Heritage is known to us for their great silhouettes with incredible details and finishes. Their line of goods is varied from glam to traditional, all of which are fashion-forward french styled furnishings. We’ve curated some of our favorite Pulp picks from their line that blend seamlessly into the modern and eclectic spaces we’re designing for our clients.

French Heritage - Pulp Design Studios

As we get to know French Heritage there are three exciting things we learned, aside from discovering beautiful pieces and exquisite quality:

1. French Heritage stocks a broad range of product right here in the US.

2. The French Heritage line can be customized and the customization takes only 3-4 weeks. That’s unheard of these days!

3. Now, designers, this is where you get excited… They can build completely custom pieces to our design specifications. Your own atelier with the same quality French Heritage is known for. As designers, that excites us!

French Heritage - Pulp Design Studios

We are so thrilled to visit the French Heritage showroom this month and see how we can bring the great value they offer to designers back to our clients. We will be back to report on the latest trends and share some of our favorite picks from their market product debuts!

How to Barrel Age a Cocktail: The Barrel-Aged Brooklyn Cocktail

Barrel Aged Cocktail Brooklyn Bottles for Gifting

I’ve been barrel aging my own cocktails at home for a while now and I always get asked by friends and fellow-instagramers about how to barrel age a cocktail. I am here to share! But, first, you might ask…

Why Barrel Age a Cocktail??

1. You can be a lazy mixologist! You are making your cocktails in large batches and storing them, so you always have a drink (or variety of drinks) on hand.

2. Throwing a party? It’s amazing for entertaining! Again, you are pre-mixing so it takes the work out of making cocktails while acting as host.

3. Gifting! Nothing says “I’m thinking about you” like a hand-crafted cocktail. I keep bottles on hand (pictured above) for friends who are going through a rough day, celebrating something, moving in to a new home, or for no reason at all.

4. Aside from the convenience, it’s all about the flavor. The flavors marry together in the oak barrel and give it a maturity and complexity that takes your cocktail to another level. Trust me, it’s good stuff!

Barrel Aged Cocktail Brooklyn Ingredients  Barrel Aged Cocktail Brooklyn Oak Barrel

Barrel-Aged Brooklyn Recipe

Makes 12 servings

First, you’ll need an oak barrel. Luckily, it’s as easy as ordering online and prepping it using the manufacturer’s instructions.

2-Liter Oak Barrel
24 oz Rye Whiskey (I prefer Bulliet Rye)
12 oz Dry Vermouth (I prefer Dolin Dry Vermouth)
3 oz Maraschino Liqueur (I prefer Luxardo)
3/4 oz Orange Bitters (I used my own homemade bitters, but store-bought is fine)

Instructions: Pour all of the ingredients in to the barrel using a funnel. Let sit for 1 week to 1 month. Test it each week until your get the desired oaky flavor.

Barrel Aged Cocktail Brooklyn Mixing

Barrel Aged Cocktail Brooklyn Orange Twist

Making Your Cocktail

Makes 1 serving

Pour 3 oz of your Barrel-Aged Brooklyn into a cocktail glass. Add ice to the top of the liquid. Stir with a cocktail spoon until glass is frosty and cold on the outside. Strain into a chilled coup glass. Garnish with an orange twist.

Tip: Be sure to peel the orange over the glass so you get all the good orange spritz in your beverage.

The Brooklyn cocktail is a favorite of mine right now. I like to call it the summer ‘manhattan’! It’s a perfect summer-to-fall cocktail. As fall is ushered in and you spend more time in your beautifully designed space, I hope you’ll give it a try and enjoy it as much as I do!

Work In Progress: #WestSeattleTownhome

Interior Design Progress - West Seattle Townhome photo 4 photo 3

The Pulp Design Studios team has just completed Phase One of a town home design project for a couple in West Seattle. One of the owners of this townhome is a home editor for a local Seattle magazine, so naturally it needed to be stylish and fashion forward. Luckily they just told us to run with it… She has been watching the home designs coming out of our firm for years, so we had their complete trust. We had free reign on style, so it was up to us to give them a look that they didn’t even know they needed.

The images above are just a peek at what we’ve been working on… We went with an overall neutral palette, focusing on high contrast with some pops of intense color. It was modern with eclectic touches and…. It fit them perfectly. On our last meeting they told us that they just sit around their space and talk about which piece is their favorite… I think we’d consider that a success.

Now, onto Phase Two!

We have been focusing much of our energy on our clients these days, so keep following along on the progress of this project (and our other projects) on our Instagram & here on Hello, Splendor by searching hashtag: #WestSeattleTownhome.

If you have a space you’d love to get the ‘Pulp treatment’, give us a shout and tell us about your project

We, at Pulp Design Studios, have been working with clients to renovate and combine two condominium units into one, in the hip downtown Seattle neighborhood of Belltown. We are nearing the home stretch on this project, now that construction is complete and working to install the furniture, art, and accessories. This project has been an exercise in developing a chic eclectic mix since we reused and reworked much of the client’s existing furniture and have worked in some incredibly chic key pieces to pull the space together. It’s coming along beautifully and we can’t wait to share more…

A Sneak Peek at the New Pulp Offices + A Letter from the Partners

A Sneak Peek into Pulp Design Studio’s Dallas & Seattle Offices.

This month Pulp Design Studios celebrates 7 years in business!  And, as we celebrate this milestone we also have some important news to share.

Pulp Design Studios is excited to announce a Change of Address for both our Dallas & Seattle locations. As our firm and staff continues to grow to accommodate our amazing roster of Residential, Commercial, & Hospitality clients, it was time for our space to expand accordingly.

Our new Dallas space is set in the incredible Dallas Design District with space for both our interior design studio and a small showroom to showcase our custom designs & Pulp Home wares. This prime location allows Pulp Design Studios a plethora of design resources at our fingertips for our interior design clients & projects. Our new Seattle office is located in the heart of Seattle’s historic Ballard neighborhood, giving our team space to grow as we continue to take on new projects in Seattle and across the country.

Since our cross-country offices operate cohesively and collaboratively through integrated technology, the growth of both locations has significant impact for our national design firm. Pulp Design Studios is now poised to take on larger projects as a result of an improved design library, expanded client presentation space, as well as a new showroom area, all of which simply enhance our offerings to new and existing clients.

As our team settles in to our new offices, we wanted to take the time to let you be the first to know about our new spaces. We appreciate your business, our creative collaboration, as well as your referrals, which have made this growth possible.

Thank you,

Beth Dotolo + Carolina V Gentry
