Our Pulp Design Studios client, who we’ve been working with for years on other parts of her home, recently completed a Master Bath remodel. When it was time to move to the Master Bath, we knew this was a great opportunity to make selections that would not only increase her home’s value and investment, but that would also encapsulate her daring style!

We opted for timeless finishes, but selected a contrasting peppercorn black wall paint that would showcase our client’s amazing inherent style! And, hey, that one pop of contrast really makes the space pop! We are so pleased with how the bathroom turned out…

New Work: Art-Centric Modern Residence

It’s been a while since we’ve posted new work on Pulp Design Studios site! But starting this week, we’re going to be sharing new projects with you on a more regular basis…

The first, is an modern condo that has an art focus. We came in to make a very contemporary space more warm, functional, and reflective of our client’s personal style. The result was a clean, yet earthy, space with lots of livable ‘wow’ moments throughout.

Postcards from an aspiring mixologist…

It’s been a while since I’ve done a ‘Postcards From’ post… Quite frankly, Pulp has been cranking along like crazy and I’ve forgotten to check in on a personal level. Sorry about that! When I stepped back to see what I’ve been doing lately, I’ve noticed a common theme (which may have to do with how busy we’ve been): Booze. 

Truthfully, I’ve been developing such an interest in the art of the cocktail. Not just drinking it! There’s such a science and art behind making a cocktail. I’ve purchased books, taken classes, and practiced at home…. a lot.

I recently took a bitters making class at The Pantry at Delancey with bartending genius Anna Wallace to learn how to make my own bitters at home… Different flavors & different concoctions! I learned about all of the medicinal properties of different bitters. If you tell me a cocktail is medicine, I’ll listen… and drink it… for my health.

I had a partner in crime, Keli of drygoods design, who is a fellow boozer! (Check out her fun shop, and if you’re in Seattle check out her new studio & classes.)

Since I learned so much about bitters in this class I decided to start tasting some new bitters & vermouths (which is actually considered a bitter). Dolin Dry Vermouth on the rocks with a twist…. delicious, and perfect for drinking while cooking.

Cocchi Vermouth di Torrino with soda & and orange twist… So refreshing and quite the aperitif!

Two weeks later, I’ve gotten to Step Two of making my own bitters… Liquid, solids, and homemade simple syrup. And, in one week, they’ll all become one. I’ll let you know how it goes!

And, since I made simple syrup for this little project, I just had to find a drink to make with it! So, in celebration of cousin Vinny Dotolo’s restaurant making the cover of Bon Appetit magazine, I whipped up some New York Sours from page 100. You’ve got to try it!

Now…. My question for you is:

We think that books can be the soul of your space… they say so much about your likes and interests. Plus, they add graphics and texture to your space to really bring it to life.

Here’s a sneak peek of a Pulp Design Studios interior design project that we’re working on for the executive office of a top ad agency… The coffee table books that we selected for this space say so much about this executive’s interests and really add some personality to his office.

So, this got us thinking…

Our first night in NYC.

If you haven’t guessed yet, we love to eat. We stopped in at Forcella for a slice.

And, finished the night off with a drink and some business talk… which usually contains this classic stare down.

And, always ends with smiles.

The next day, Carolina headed back to Dallas to meet with clients and finalize some designs… While I stayed in the city to celebrate my 5 year wedding anniversary and finish up some important business.

We had a great trip, with lots of successful meetings for the Pulp brand… And, we ate our little hearts out in one of the greatest cities there is. Look for some of the fruits of our labor here in New York City very soon!
