How We Made Sure Our Clients’ Were Back to School Ready Through Interior Design

We first introduced this project a couple months back when we took you through the process of curating their art collection. We just recently wrapped their project after working our way through designing their entire home. But, before the final reveal, we’ll continue to share the behind-the-scenes moments that made this amazing home what it turned out to be!

Up to bat this week are the kids rooms. This project was off to a unique start because we signed on in the late spring and had to have the kids’ bedrooms finished before school started at the end of the summer. Crunch time!

Designing Kids Rooms with Function + Style

To bring you up to speed on the background of this project, our clients initially purchased a new home that needed major renovations, but after starting in on the project realized it was just too big a task to take on. So they decided to search for a home that had great bones, but that they could still personalize and make into their own. That’s where we came in.

THE TIMELINE

By the time they settled on the home they knew they wanted to invest in, it was spring and the kids needed finished spaces  to live in by the start of school. So we worked some of our major design magic to bring three kids’ rooms to completion just in time. Three months may seem like tons of time to the non-design world, but when it comes to concepting, purchasing, receiving and installing a space, this is what we call a sprint.

THE INSPIRATION

These clients are really laid back and flexible… and super trusting! Just like the design for the rest of the house, our clients gave us total creative license over their space. We wanted to make their rooms something that they could grow into, while keeping things playful and fun. They’re kids, after all! And at the end of the day, kids are hard on their things so we wanted to bring in furnishings that were super durable and functional.

THE FINAL DESIGN

Each of our three mini-clients have rooms full of personality, organization and style! While each room is distinct, we included a few elements throughout that you just can’t go without when it comes to kids. We gave each of them some sort of pushpin board where they can display their artwork and get creative, without looking messy. We also integrated shelving for them to display their trophies, hats and favorite items; This is a great way to create organization, while bringing in personality!

And of course, we selecting plenty of fun textiles, furnishings and artwork! But you’ll just have to wait for the final reveal to see! In the meantime, check out some of our must-have kids decor…

10 Interior Design Trends You’ll See Everywhere This Fall

We’ve been getting our hands dirty with new and current client projects, so inspiration has been plentiful around the Pulp studios! It’s always hard to edit the list down to just 10 of our favorites, but we think this month’s Pulp Edit does a pretty good job of capturing all the things inspiring us, from textiles to fashion!

The Top 10 Interior Design Trends of August 2018

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - Serengeti Schumacher

Animal patterns are hard to do well, without looking tacky and cliche, but Schumacher totally nailed it with their Serengeti textile. We love this adventurous modern classic! Not a spec of cliche in sight!

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018- Brass Inlay

Black and brass have held a comfortable seat on our list of favorite trends this year, but this brass inlay, spanning from the cabinets to ceiling, takes everything we love about this trend to a new level. Designed by Gary Ciuffo and photographed by Werner Straube for Traditional Home‘s July/August 2018 issue, this space is absolutely to die for.

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - Layla Gans

The wonderful Traci Zeller gifted us these amazing necklaces by Leyla Gans after her “Is Pretty Passe” panel at the Wesley Hall showroom at High Point Market this spring. We were so honored to take part in the panel with such kick a** women and love how this necklace brings everything we love about pretty, yet edgy details to life!

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018- Statement Earrings

Just like we love to add unexpected details to an interior design client’s space, we have been obsessing over statement earrings with an otherwise neutral look. Our flair for the unexpected design approach meets fashion and style!

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - Marbelous Phillip Jeffries

We’re using this stunning Phillip Jeffries wallcovering in a different color in a current project in Seattle — it’s going to look so amazing in their space! We love when the natural world serves as inspiration, so we were instantly draw to this wallcovering, patterned after one of the best natural stones for design.

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - Marble Shower Pedestal

A shower pedestal? Yes, please! Designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard and photographed by Roger Davies, we spotted this space in the July/August issue of House Beautiful and instantly fell in love with how chic the pedestal makes an already beautiful space.

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - High Contrast Marble

Let’s talk about high contrast marble… we first spotted this trend starting to emerge with Bernhardt’s Black Forest Marble at High Point Market and have had our eyes out for it ever since. The space from #6 does more than just the shower pedestal right — check out that marble!

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - Sight Lines Archway

When we design spaces for our clients, we focus on the way a room is experienced and how the human eye will naturally move throughout. This space designed by Sees Designs and photographed by Cody Ulrich for D Magazine, defines what it means to create beautiful sight lines that elevate the effect of great design.

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - Popham Hex Tile

You can’t go wrong with a statement tile, especially when it’s as full of life as Popham Tile for Ann Sacks. This beauty is going in a repeat Pulp client’s wine cellar as part of their basement renovation in progress.

Best Summer Interior Design Trends 2018 - Modern Pool Design

There’s only so much time left to throw to best pool party of the summer, so we’re drawing major inspiration from this cool and neutral palette, designed by Ron Radziner and photographed by Trever Tondro for Architectural Digest‘s July/August issue.

This Family Home Proves Luxury Design and Well Lived Spaces Do Go Together

Inside a Lakeside Seattle Home Renovation In Progress

We’ve been working our way through a whole-home interior design project for these Seattle clients over the past few months and seeing their home take shape has been so exciting for us all! We first introduced you to this project a few months ago during the design phase and early installs, so boy is it time for an update! Check out our initial introduction to this project to get a recap of the who, what, when, where and why!

Entry

Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.002

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

Our clients really wanted a statement light fixture in the entry, but space constraints meant we had to get creative to give them the impact they were hoping for, without compromising good design.

THE PROGRESS

When wallcovering can be the answer, we never say no. We covered the ceiling of the entry in an amazing Phillip Jeffries wallcovering that makes the cool, art-like fixture we selected seem that much better.

WHAT’S NEXT

These clients have an awesome art collection that we’re integrating throughout the house. We couldn’t find exactly the pedestal we wanted to display one of their sculptures in the entry, so we had it custom made and can’t wait to see it installed in the entry!

Home Bar

Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.007

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

Our clients love to entertain and have the perfect home for it. We’re turning their basement level into an entertaining Mecca, complete with a home bar that would give the best bar in your city a run for it’s money.

THE PROGRESS

We installed an amazing geometric tile from TileBar that gives all kinds of M.C Escher vibes. Seeing the backsplash come together completely set the tone for the rest of the space and gave even the smallest of details an extra punch of personality.

WHAT’S NEXT

Some sort of amazing party or gathering to Christen the new space!

Playroom

Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.004

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

Our clients have three kids, and in addition to designing their bedrooms, we got to take on their playroom. We’re creating a durable space that has playful, but very sophisticated details, like a statement wallcovering from S .Harris, and tons of storage and organization!

THE PROGRESS

The wallcovering made a huge impact in the space — we love how subdued it is, while making the space feel full of life. We also designed tons of built-in storage for the space, complete with a desk perfect for homework or craft time, that are looking amazing and making all the difference!

WHAT’S NEXT

We’re giving our mini-clients all the things a kid’s dream playroom should have — a comfortable spot to watch movies, a desk for homework (okay, maybe that’s not every kid’s dream, but it’s important too!), storage for art supplies, and most importantly, a place to just play and be kids… in style!

Family Room

Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.003 Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.006

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

As part of the basement level entertaining and family time Mecca, we’re creating a super comfortable area for our clients and their guests to relax and soak up the space, whether it be for a movie night or summer party on the lake. Because their home is right off the water. we’re working on making the space as durable as possible, while still feeling soft and inviting.

THE PROGRESS

We selected an amazing modular sofa for this space to maximize seating and give our clients a piece of furniture that was distinct and unique. Each piece we chose for this space brings in tons of personality, from the side tables to the accessories, making it the kind of place you always want to show off.

WHAT’S NEXT

The final reveal! Remember, they say good things come to those who wait.

Fun Little Details

Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.001

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

“I don’t want a hidden door.” Said no one ever. We concepted a “Scooby Doo” style hidden door in the basement level that leads to our clients’ wine cellar.

THE PROGRESS

What started as an awkward under-stair opening is now one of the coolest features in the home, for both the kids and the parents. We can’t imagine a better setting for a wine tasting party

Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.014 Seattle Home Interior Design Progress.015

We are just as excited as our clients to see the progress on their home. The transformation has been amazing so far and we love hearing how much our clients are loving their space as it comes together. We’ve barely scratched the surface of the details behind this project, so keep your eyes out for more progress updates on the other areas of the home!
