Watch: Including Our Little-Clients
In addition to getting to spend some of our design time selecting fun and youthful pieces for little-clients, we love getting to bring our clients’ children into the entire process… and they love it too! It’s important to us that every person who spends time in a space we design absolutely loves every element. We want our little clients to grow into their best selves in a thoughtfully designed space that encourages imagination. See how we include every member of the family in our designs…

The Business of Design: Timeline of a Luxury Interior Designer
We love getting to show off our interior design clients‘ spaces throughout the entire design process- from initial site visits to the final lust-worthy space. Behind the dreamy schemes and furnishing installs are countless hours spent imagining unique designs with flair and hours on the phone tracking and completing orders. For our design friends and clients, we are sharing a peek into the timeline behind luxury interior design…

Weeks of design work always pays off when we get to leave our clients with exactly the space they always hoped to have. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Pulp in Progress: A Hip Family Home with a Flair
As part of our Three-Step Design Process, we are taking you on a tour through projects that are currently in progress. It will be a fun look into who we’re working with, what made them want to hire a designer and how we are working with our clients to help solve some key design challenges that will improve their daily experience. Plus, you’ll get a glimpse at some of our designs before they’re completed!
Step One: Consultation + Intake

Q: WHO IS THE CLIENT AND WHAT IS THEIR SCOPE OF WORK?
After purchasing their soon-to-be dream home, a creative and well-traveled family of four came to Pulp to take a blank canvas and fill it with flair. Our clients are busy-professionals with two young children who love imaginative play and family time. This whole-home project came to us as a completely clear and unfinished space ready to be elevated and transformed with a Pulp twist.
Q: WHY DID THE CLIENT DECIDE TO HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER RATHER THAN TAKING THE PROJECT ON THEMSELVES?
This modern house is the first home our clients have owned and they wanted to be proud of every space everyday. Looking to create a space that would function in the everyday, withstand a busy family with young kids and a dog and be just as unique as it is refined and sophisticated, our clients came to us to take their dreams and turn them into reality. They knew they needed professionals who designed with an edge to turn their new space into a lasting family retreat.
Step Two: The Design Phase
Here’s where we took everything we learned from our client at our consultation and intake process and put all that information and our creativity to work for our clients. We started really getting to know our client and their kids, their vision of their home and how they tend to “do life” in each room. Then we started by gathering inspiration from our client in the form of a Pinterest board and began to collaborate on the design between our offices.

Q: WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE NEW DESIGN?
Through our Splendid Living approach, we learned that our clients are drawn to clean and modern design, but also love comfortable and vintage elements. In addition to wanting kid-friendly spaces that would inspire creative play and free imagination, our clients wanted a fresh space infused with unique and interesting furnishings and a stunning master retreat. Traditional was a word we ruled out day one as we approached the design inspired by our clients’ dynamic personalities and styles.
Q: WHAT WAS A UNIQUE DESIGN CHALLENGE AND HOW IS PULP SOLVING THE PROBLEM?
One of our clients’ must-haves was a guest room that doubled as a playroom and family space. Facing spacial constraints and a big dream, we had to imagine a way to make the room playful but sophisticated. Creating a dual-function room with size limitations can be challenging, but we employed our own imaginations to select truly unique furnishings appropriate for kid time and guests.
Step Three: Installation + Execution

This stunning home has been coming along beautifully. Each installation leaves us that much more excited to show off the completed home. Check out our Instagram for more photos and details on this installation.

Our Love for Design
Beth and Carolina share just why they love design so much.
The Pulp Edit: August 2017
We are loving so many things this August, it was hard to narrow down our favorites to just ten. These ten interior design trends have us jumping for joy at all to nods to design with a flair for the unexpected.

The high contrast of this marble selection is dramatic, bold and all around glamourous. Using the same material on multiple surfaces gives the room an audacious yet cohesive feel. A simply stunning bath photographed by Simon Upton.

This design for Gervasoni’s recent campaign has us eyeing much more than the sofa. The dynamic flooring is a definite center of interest and makes this minimalistic and coastal room feel hip and modern.

Classic pieces serve as great inspiration for contemporary creativity. The integration of Boticelli’s Venus on this vibrant wall piece is sure to be a conversation starter in this hip German restaurant. Photographed by Eric Laignal in Interior Design’s July 2017 issue, we always love seeing a good unexpected twist.

The texture on this wall covering by Winfield Thybony is unprecedented. The beaded pattern and deep warm tones would give a space an instantly elevated feel by adding texture and interest. The moment we saw (and felt!) this wallcovering, we were dreaming up ways we could use it in projects.

Our Seattle team recently visited the Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror exhibit, which has all our eyes on reflective walls. We love a moody, dark wall– the lacquer finish in this opulent dining room is nothing if not daring. We’re all about this trend, photographed by Eric Piasecki.

We love giving our projects an artisan flair wherever possible. This wallcovering by Jim Thompson was designed to resemble bamboo, but looks painted giving it a personal, artistic touch. The colors and uncomplicated sophistication of the design make it a beautiful selection for a number of design schemes.

A little gold and flair in a wallcovering? Yes, please. The Batik line by Innovations is the definition of a chic-yet-hip must-have. We love the little touches of gold within the soft-yet-statement color scheme.

We love designing rooms that you won’t find in every home. We’ve shared our guides to wellness and listening rooms, but we are loving this home library that would be any book-lover’s favorite retreat.

Alexander Wang’s NYC apartment is a neutral dream. Featured in the September 2017 issue of Architectural Digest and photographed by Anthony Cotsifas, the prolific fashion designers home is layered with understated neutrals and funky furnishings. We love this subdued color concept brought to life by brilliant art selections and whimsical furniture.

You cannot go wrong with a Kelly Wearstler fabric. Our entire design team has been loving this Sora Velvet design for its luxurious feel and cool blues. We think this would make for some pretty amazing pieces of custom furniture…
We draw inspiration everywhere and love seeing such fearless design. Which trend are you loving this month?

Interior Trend — Leather Surfaces
We’re still savoring these last few weeks of summer, but are starting to design a new season of projects for our interior design clients, which has us crazy about spaces that exude luxury and warmth. We love incorporating leather into our interior design projects whenever possible– it’s a go-to when designing sophisticated and opulent spaces. It’s no secret that leather is great for upholstery, but we’re all about designing with a flair for the unexpected at Pulp. That means using classic materials in innovative and hip ways– from backsplashes to wall murals, the limit does not exist. See a few of our favorite leather wall and floor tiles and wallcoverings…
