bits & baubles :: links I’m loving

Happy Friday, friends!! Per usual these days, it’s been a crazy busy week…

But, here’s a few links I’m loving this week!

• Isn’t this photo fantastic?? It’s got me feeling a little fancy!

• An Open Faced Italian Fig Sandwich? This is so up my alley & perfect for a fall picnic. I need to make that happen.

• I adore these mini notecards.

• Have you heard of Fab.com?? It’s like Gilt Groupe for hipsters! Great prices & cool finds. I LOVE IT!

• Two words: I. DIE. (Or, live forever. Whichever.) I really can’t wait for the new Twilight movie!

 What are your plans this weekend??

Finding Splendor :: Donate!

A couple of weeks ago, Carolina and I cleaned out my closet. I needed to get organized, purge, and get rid of things that I haven’t worn in a long time. My tastes have changed (and, ahem, my size has changed). I ended up purging 6 large bags of clothes & shoes that hopefully will go to a better cause than eating up space in my house for no good reason.

Of course, a trip to the Lakewood Goodwill donation drop had to end in a rare trip to the Lakewood IHOP for a funny face pancake for Max, in which he ate with his shades on.

So, when is the last time you cleaned out your closet?? Any closet tips you want to share?

TIP: A great hint I saw on the Nate Berkus Show the other day… Put all your clothes in your closet with the hangers facing backwards. When you take it out to wear it, put the hanger back in the right way. Any hangers that are still turned backwards after 6 months should be donated. They said 6 months, but I’m gonna say 9 months! Our Texas seasons are a totally random, so some seasonal items just won’t get worn because of the weather.

Objects of Splendor :: Fuchsia

I love the color fuchsia. If I had to pick a favorite color, this might be it. I love it for fall and combining it with other jewel tones. It’s totally bringing me inspiration right now in fashion and interiors. In fact, hop over to the PULP Design Studios blog to see an entire fuchsia post dedicated to hot pink interiors!

What do you think of the color fuchsia?? It’s not for everyone.

a spectacular family!

glasses, hip glasses, spectacles, mr potato head glasses

So, all this talk about Warby Parker and how ‘I don’t even need glasses’… Well, after a family trip to the eye doctor it turns out that I actually do need glasses. And, so does my hubby! Of course, Maxton doesn’t need glasses. But, he looks so precious in his Mr Potato Head glasses that I couldn’t help but post.

I didn’t go with Warby Parker for my very first pair because I wanted some one-on-one assistance, but I still plan on ordering a pair of Warby Parker prescription sunglasses!

It’s amazing what a pair of frames can do for your lifestyle if you need them! So, I encourage everyone to get their eyes checked. I had no idea that I needed them. Since getting glasses I can see more clearly (Eric & Alcide looked extra delicious on the True Blood finale last night) and don’t get headaches as often! Go get your eyes checked!!

So, whatdaya think of our frames?? I’m still getting used to them!

my new secret weapon :: Mottega

Mottega is a new lighting company that I was introduced to this year in New York, that I immediately knew had a place in my home and in my client’s homes. As a designer, every once in a while a company comes along that you know will make your life and job easier. Mottega is that new go-to vendor!

For me personally, I live in a 1960’s home with a dark den that was begging for a quality lamp that could put out some serious light. I also wanted a lamp that could transition from my ‘first home’ to the home I hope to be living in soon. Mottega completely fit the bill. Take a look above at my new lamp that has made my dark family room a well-lit and stylish space.

First of all, Mottega lamps are completely customizable. A quick visit online and you can select your shape, color, base, finial, and shade! It puts you in complete control of your design. Seriously, go play with their design tool… It’s so much fun! You can see above the design process for the gorgeous lamp I designed for my home, courtesy of Mottega. I was able to see exactly what it would look like before I placed my order and see the exact height and size for placement.

The second reason I am completely smitten with Mottega is the options. They have the most amazing colors available, all of which are the perfect version of each hue. I went with a more nuetral choice for versatility, since I may not be in this home forever. They also have great shade, base, and finial options that can take your lamp from modern to more transitional. It’s the perfect collection for my clients because it allows me to customize the lamp to my client’s style… and most importantly be able to show them what it would look like.

Now, let’s talk about the quality! The pull chain is perfect for ease of use. They have two sockets and two pull chains that allow you to control the light levels. (I only have one of the bulbs on in my photo above… it get’s brighter, which is great for us!) The cord is fabric covered which blends in with the decor. And, you can just see in the details that it’s made with the utmost quality.

I love my new Mottega lamp and I can’t wait to see the different ways I can use this for my clients.

So… I went with a neutral shade. What color would you have chosen??

What I’m Watching :: Fall Television 2011

tv, television, stacked tvs
It’s that time of year again… When I share with you my inner nerd and you see how crazy addicted I am to television… It’s FALL SWEEPS!! Some people love movies (Don’t get me wrong. I love movies!), but I hate when the story ends. I love tuning in from week to week, and for some shows years on end, to follow a story line and get to know the characters… intimately. Yes, it’s like they’re REALLY my friends. So, here’s who I’ll be getting close with at the start of this years fall tv.

What I’ll be watching…

September Series Premieres

90210 | Sept 13 | CW
Why I Watch: I really don’t know! It’s my inner 14 year old that wants to get a taste of the drama that’s missing from my life, I suppose. But, I love every minute of it.

Ringer | Sept 13 | CW | NEW SERIES
Why I’ll Watch: It’s stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, and I’m a huge Buffy fan! Plus, it’s about twins, assumed identity, the feds, and mobsters. I’m in!

Parenthood | Sept 13 | NBC
Why I Watch: Because it’s funny, heartwarming, totally relatable, and I have a mad crush on Peter Krause.

Up All Night | Sept 14 | NBC NEW SERIES
Why I’ll Watch: Because I love Will Arnett and I want to relive my son’s infant years in a totally honest way!

The Vampire Diaries | Sept 15 | CW
Why I Watch: Hot Vampires. What else do you need?

The Secret Circle | Sept 15 | CW NEW SERIES
Why I’ll Watch: Honestly. I’m just a sucker for CW shows, especially when it involves witches and teenage drama. I know.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia | Sept 15 | FX
Why I Watch: Not only am I a Philly native, but regardless of where the show is filmed, it has me laughing out loud every episode. Two words: Charlie Day.

The Biggest Loser | Sept 20 | NBC
Why I Watch: I cry. I get motivated. I get wrapped up in the contestant’s personal growth. I just love this show because it’s so full of hope!

Why I’ll Watch: I’m not sure if I’ll love this show, but Zooey Deschanel is so adorable that I have to give it a shot.

Grey’s Anatomy | Sept 22 | ABC
Why I Watch: It’s just a good dose of doctor drama with a bunch a people with no boundaries, who are completely unprofessional. Totally my kind of show!

Gossip Girl | Sept 26 | CW
Why I Watch: Fashion, Drama, & Chuck Bass. That about sums it up!

October Series Premieres

Dexter | Oct 2 | SHO
Why I Watch: It’s a totally twisted show where a serial killer is the hero. Plus, it just keeps getting better and better each season!

Grimm | Oct 21 | NBC NEW SERIES
Why I’ll Watch: I’m SUPER EXCITED about this one. It’s from the Excecutive Producers of Buffy & Angel. It’s involves storybook creatures, mystical powers passed down through generations, and dark witty humor! I am most excited about this!

Once Upon A Time | Oct 23 | ABC NEW SERIES
Why I’ll Watch: It’s from the creators of LOST and it involves fairy tales. Hello!

So this is what I’ll be watching this fall… Yes… All of it. And, in a sad admission, this doesn’t even include my reality television watching. But, I have one rule for new shows that I think everyone should live by: Give it at least 2 to 3 episodes before you give up on a new series. The first episode sometimes doesn’t capture you because they’re too busy introducing the characters and helping you understand the direction of the show. If the second or third episode doesn’t capture you… feel free to give up. But, a REALLY good show gets you in the pilot episode.

I AM…. SO EXCITED!!!

So…. What will YOU be watching this fall?
