Tour a Bright Kids Bath Done Right with Our Starburst Hardware

We love seeing how other designers use our Starburst Pulls in their projects. It’s seriously such an honor when amazing designers want to put our hardware in their own clients’ homes!

Speaking of amazing designers creating stunning spaces with the Starburst Pulls… we had to share this bright and playful kids bath freshly completed by Ivy House Interiors for a precious family of five! We spotted the matte brass pull when the designers were scheming and could hardly wait to see the completed space.

Ivy House wanted to create a crisp and clean space with gorgeous vanity mirrors and touches of contrast. They went with a bold, yet soothing marble wall and mint green vanity that was the perfect color for both the girls and boy. They needed to add a bit of flair to the vanity and found the Matte Brass Starburst Pull was the perfect piece for the space.

“We loved how your hardware turned out on the vanity, it just gives it just the stylish detail this vanity needed. I went ahead and bought 8, so we plan on using the pulls in other parts of the house!” — Hanieh, Ivy House Interiors Designer

This bath was designed for Leah Reel, a lifestyle blogger and super stylish mother of three who is in the midst of a whole-home renovation. She recently moved back to Oklahoma City and brought on Ivy House to help with a full remodel after having worked with them in the past. If one thing’s for certain, it’s that her home has a killer kids bath and some seriously cool hardware!

We’ll be on the edge of our seats waiting to see how they use the rest of the pulls throughout this already beautiful home! If this space, photographed by Beau and Belle Photography, is any indication of what’s to come, we know it’s going to be a stunner.

How We Helped a Dallas Client Curate Their Art Collection to Design Perfection

We know, we know… is there a day that we aren’t raving about our love for art? Well when it comes to interior design, there shouldn’t be a day that art doesn’t enter the conversation; We never leave an interior design client’s home without amazing art. It would be unfinished! One of the only things better than sourcing a new collection ourselves, is getting to work with our clients’ existing personal collections and help them build it to perfection.

Enter a super cool family of 5 in Dallas. He’s a doctor, she supports the office-side of their practice and they have three wonderful school-aged children and they love art. These clients have a seriously impressive collection of energetic, powerful, original, and massive pieces that we couldn’t wait to add to and  build their design around.

The project in a nutshell:

Last year our clients decided to buy a new home that needed a full renovation, but after kicking off they decided it was too much work. They chose to buy a new home that could be transformed into something beautiful without gutting the entire structure.

Our clients are very laid-back and just didn’t know what to do with their interiors! After deciding to buy the new home, they wanted it to be finished and beautiful, but knew they lacked the design chops to pull it off themselves, so to the web they went. They found Pulp and brought us on to make all their home dreams a reality.

When we hit the drawing boards at the beginning of this project, we focused on creating balance between their many impactful pieces by introducing a neutral palette with pops of color throughout. We selected a few new pieces to further elevate the fine art found through the home.

Their existing collection includes a variety of pieces, ranging from 7 foot tall pieces to unique ceramic vessels. Our clients have a particular affinity for interesting pottery and sculptural ceramic pieces, so we wanted to build out spaces that brought this passion home. We always give our clients one-of-a-kind interiors so we commissioned a local Dallas artist, Jen Rose, to create custom pieces using colors that complemented our clients’ space.

We were so happy we got to source an amazing organic wall sculpture by the incredible Gregory Miller, a local Dallas artist who recently passed away. We have been huge fans of Miller’s work and were honored to have clients proudly display his work in their home. It brought an artisan coastal vibe to the space and blended the room’s style with their personalities and passions. Get on our newsletter list for more behind-the-scenes on how we created this space in the weeks to come!

Our clients had been exploring options to add to their personal collection and consulted us to help guide their decision making. We were able to lend our design eye to the pool of options to help our clients select stunning pieces that they would be proud to display in their home and that suited their personal styles.

We are in the process of filling this space with some of our favorite art inspired accessories to tie it all together. From coffee table books to sculptures, we found tons of dynamic and interesting accessories to take the artistic feel of their home to the next level. Achieving major shelf-styling goals in every room!

How to Make a Bed According to Interior Designers, Bed Making Tips, How to Arrange Accent Pillows, Bedroom Decor Tips, Soothing Master Bedroom

The 3 Steps to a Perfectly Made Bed

We’re pretty particular about bed making here at Pulp Design Studios. We aren’t rule followers when it comes to design, so we apply the same approach to building perfectly made beds for our interior design clients… but the standards are high. Leaving plenty of room for personalization depending on each client’s individual preference, we do have a few tried and true tricks to making the perfect, designer-approved bed.

The Interior Designer Guide to Making a Bed

Pulp for S Harris Bedroom

Start with the basics.

You’re going to need a few obvious components to create your beautiful and ultra-comfy escape. Flat and fitted sheets are the most basic fundamentals and the ones you will come in most contact with, so you better make them luxurious. Peacock Alley is our go-to for amazing sheeting.

To make your bed looked styled and finished, you need a matelasse, duvet and layers of pillows (don’t worry, we’ll break this down next). During our in-depth design process, we ask our clients exactly how they like their duvet, whether super fluffy and plush, or lightweight and cool, and customize our selections to their preferences.

How to Make a Bed Like a Designer.002

Interior Designers Bed Making Tips8

Our Art Centric Style client wanted a sleek, structured look so we had a matelasse custom made to create the right look.

Layers, always create layers.

Layers are key when it comes to designing just about anything, from beds to entire rooms. Using a variety of pillow sizes and textured textiles will make your bed look polished and interesting.

There’s no hard rule to pillow arrangements, but a tried and true setup for a king bed includes three euros, two king shams, an accent pillow or two and a lumbar. Mix in different textures and patterns for adventurous or understated luxurious style. This is where we really customize the look for our clients — bring your personality out!

Interior Designers Bed Making Tips7

Now put it all together.

Here’s the trick to photo-worthy bed-making…

Fold back your matelasse and tuck it below the mattress. Fluff out that duvet and double or triple fold it back to the foot of the bed. If you have a lighter weight duvet insert, triple fold it to give it extra volume, creating a plush and fluffy look.

Extra Credit:

*If your bed frame requires a boxspring, a cover is essential — here’s a great option from Peacock Alley!

*Add a chic throw for another later of style. We like the tuck throws under the duvet fold at the end of a bed.

Interior Designers Bed Making Tips4

Start elevating your bed making game by refreshing your space with designer-curated throws and pillows! And of course, we always encourage going custom with adventurous textiles!

Custom spaces that elevate your everyday life are our thing — details down to the down fill and pillow arrangement are always uniquely personalized for our clients. We always say, it’s time to make your home a reflection of you…

10 Interior Design Trends We’re Using in All Our Projects

After spending the spring launching new hardware, our fabric collection, Pulp Design Studios for S. Harris, and visiting High Point Market to shop for clients, we’ve had plenty of time to explore new trends in the interior design industry. We’re always looking to travel, fashion, art and interiors for inspiration so we pulled from each pool to select our 10 favorite trends heading into May 2018…

The Top 10 Interior Design Trends of May 2018

Interior Design Trends May 2018.001

It’s May which means Met Gala! We are constantly turning to the fashion world for inspiration and love the Handmaids Tale vibes from this year’s imaginative Catholic theme at the Metropolitan Museum. Photographed by Philip-Lorca diCorcia for Vogue makes us more inspired by the Vatican than we knew possible.

Interior Design Trends May 2018.002

We couldn’t have a trend round-up without one of our favorite patterns from our licensed collection, Pulp Design Studios for S. Harris. We’ll get into our love of blues and greens later, but we can’t get enough of the artistic feel that makes our Old Cairo fabric so alluring!

Interior Design Trends May 2018.003

With so many exciting projects in the works, we are designing up a custom furnishing storm. That means putting the finishing touches on with adventurous and bold hardware! All of the Starburst Pull finishes have been taking our clients’ furnishings to the next level.

Interior Design Trends May 2018 - 1.001

You heard it here first — the Eye of Ra coasters are back in stock and better than ever! We just got in a new epoxy finish that is bringing major life to all of our entertaining and barware dreams!

Interior Design Trends May 2018.005

When has a floating marble vanity ever been a bad idea? We are in love with the high-impact effect of this space, featured in Architectural Digest. We designed a floating marble vanity for a client in Laredo and are waiting on pins and needles to see it installed!

Interior Design Trends May 2018.006

If you know Pulp, than you know we love to make a statement on our interior design clients’ walls. We’re big fans of a bold wallcovering, so we love everything about the idea of an art piece-like wall mural, like this space featured in Interior Design’s April 2018 issue.

Interior Design Trends May 2018.007

We are constantly turned to Elle Decor to find inspiration, and were so excited to see one of our favorite Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings featured in the April/May issue’s “What’s Hot” section. We are so incredibly honored to have our textile collection featured alongside the Coffered Wood wallcovering in one of our favorite publications.

Interior Design Trends May 2018.008

Anytime we find ourselves taken aback by a lighting fixture, we know it’s something good. Photographed by Stephen Kent for Elle Decor, we are all about the concept of a ceiling sculpture.

Interior Design Trends May 2018.009

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again — blues and greens are the new neutral and we couldn’t be happier. We’ve been seeing this color trend everywhere from furniture to tile and especially love the artisan feel of the Euphoria tile by Sonoma. This space, photographed by Stephan Julliard for Elle Decor has us feeling blue in the very best way possible.

Interior Design Trends May 2018.010

Details, details, details… We love seeing unexpected surfaces with beautiful and intricate details, like this door photographed by Simon Upton for Elle Decor. Design is all about making a statement, whether understated or loud, and every space and surface has potential to be transformed into something unique.

We’ve been using so many of these trends in our current projects and can’t wait to share how we’re bringing our favorite inspirations into our client’s homes! Stay tuned…
