A Visual Journey Through High Point Market

We just returned from an incredibly successful and productive trip to High Point Market!

We shopped for Pulp Design Studios clients, we uncovered new sources, we developed relationships with some of our current sources to bring better value to our clients, and doors opened to some amazing opportunities that we’re excited to explore. We laughed and we *almost* cried because our feet hurt so badly! A picture is worth a thousand words, so as we dig back into our client work and plug away at the post-market craze we thought we’d give you a visual journey through this 2015 Spring High Point Market. Here is market through our eyes…

The EF + LM Atelier Collection

EFLM Pulp Design Studios

After our fall visit to High Point Furnishings Market where our Pulp Design Studios design team visited the stunning Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman showroom, we were asked to keep their super secret amazing Atelier Collection under wraps! We were finally given permission to share and, let me tell you, it was hard to keep all this beauty to ourselves. First, let us start with a little background…

EF+LM gathered five incredibly talented American designers (four of which are pictured above with our design team) who do furniture like no other to design a collection that is an updated spin on traditional, allowing EF+LM do keep that timeless sensibility that they do so well. The five amazing designers included Lydia Marks & Lisa Frantz, Katie Eastridge, Barry Goralnick, and Ferrell + Mittman’s Creative Director Phillip Jeffries. The result is an amazing collection of furniture, made with the highest quality and exquisite details that have brought traditional styling into our modern era.

Feast your eyes on our five favorite pieces from the collection…

EFLM Pulp Design Studios

The Brigitte Swivel Chair – From Marks & Frantz:

She swivels and is soft and comfortable, just what an occasional chair should be. Septagonal in shape, Brigitte is perfect in any room of the house and looks best in pairs. The shape nicely offsets the more typical rounds, squares and rectangles so prevalent in today’s interiors. This chair is larger than you might think, and more comfortable than you can possibly imagine.

The Max Dylan Sofa – From Barry Goralnick:

The Max Dylan is one of the finest sofas Ferrell + Mittman has ever produced. Every detail is beautifully architectural and inviting. The low-profile arms effortlessly embrace its plush seat cushions. The hand-tailored tight back is clean and casual. Its metal legs are new and original – a classic beveled form provides the impact of a bold gesture with the light touch of a true artisan. This Mid-Century inspired design is interpreted though the eyes of a skilled architect and marvelous craftsmen.

The Carrie Settee – From Marks & Frantz:

As Carrie Bradshaw returned home from the trials and tribulations of Manhattan and her never ending search for love and fulfillment, she settled in her apartment onto her beautiful settee. This settee is faithfully re-interpreted by Ferrell + Mittman just as it has been several times for the homes of her ardent fans. Open and light in scale, this settee is as practical as it is useful, and now with the matching chair Carrie might have wanted, thanks to Ferrell + Mittman’s Creative Director. Aside from its cinematic provenance, this is a damn good piece of furniture!

The Tulane Slipper Chair – From Katie Eastridge:

Tulane sits on a solid wood base and is ready for the next client. It is a go-anywhere, no-nonsense tight back slipper chair that is comfortable, versatile, and can be the solution to interior design decisions in almost every room of the house.

EFLM Pulp Design Studios SF8300-2

The Aurora Sofa – From Phillip Jeffries:

Maybe the most difficult sofa we have ever crafted. Aurora is a heavy-weight contender—literally. Matched variegated Wenge veneers creating an exterior shell for the crisp and tailored interior upholstery. Racing across and around the Wenge exterior surface are shaped stainless steel accents that bring to mind Raymond Loewy’s automotive detailing.. Aurora must be seen to be believed- and that a design of this exceptional quality can be made in America speaks volumes about the strength of the American craftspeople.

This new collection is absolutely stunning! You can see the entire collection on their website: EF+LM Atelier Collection

A big thank you the EF+LM team for bringing us to High Point! As interior designers, we appreciate a line that is created by designers and for designers. They are a true to-the-trade line and we love their choice to position themselves as such.

And, a huge congratulations to the talented design team (who also happen to be amazingly fun and gracious people). Amazing work and amazing company!

High Point Showroom Tour: Howard Elliot

Howard Elliot Pulp Design Studios

High Point Furnishings Market is always a Pulp Design Studios must visit. Not only do we get to discover new vendors, but we also get to re-familiarize ourselves with the tried and true vendors that we’ve been using for years! For us, Howard Elliot is one of those vendors that blends seamlessly into our designs.

Howard Elliot has everything from flashy, exciting, and dynamic pieces to transitional, warm, and earthy. For us, it’s an easy one-stop-shop for many projects. Our design team has worked with Howard Elliot throughout our careers on both hotel and commercial projects, but also on high-end residential.

One of the things we are loving about Howard Elliot is their growth in the furniture and accessories arena! They introduced tons of new decorative accessories, as well as furniture. One of the things we loved from the showroom tour was the inspiration they provided with their showroom styling. Accessories mounted to mirror and the additional layering of mirrors were really fun touches!

Metallics, golds, and coppers were king this past market and Howard Elliot didn’t let us down in their beautiful collections. With the added touch of luxurious mink soft goods and upholstery, the showroom was on trend and somehow had timeless touches all at the same time. Their black and gold collections were also spot on with all of the design work we’re doing for our clients right now.

Howard Elliot has got their eye on trends and, like every great home company, looks towards fashion for setting the tone for interior trends. We enjoyed every inspiring minute and look forward to going back to High Point Furnishings Market this Spring to see what they bring!

Showroom Tour: French Heritage

French Heritage High Point Showroom

High Point Furnishings Market ended in October, but for our Pulp Design Studios designers it’s always in the forefront of our minds because it doesn’t just end at attending market. We get to bring back all the information and new vendors we’ve found, incorporate them into our design libraries, interior design projects, and share them with you!

This past fall, one of our favorite experiences was visiting the French Heritage showroom. First of all, it was a new-to-us showroom. It’s always exciting for us to find new vendors and resources. When we first found out that French Heritage was sponsoring our visit to High Point, we were excited to look closely at their line and see how we could incorporate what they do so well into our more modern design work. We were so pleasantly surprised to see how fashion forward and fresh their take is on traditional pieces!

Upon entry of the showroom and meeting the owners, the first thing that struck us was their hospitality and family-owned feel. For such an established company, we were surprised to see that the owners were so involved. And, let me tell you, that shows in their product, their service, and in their design. The warmth that we received from the owners exuded throughout the showroom and throughout their product. Every detail had a story behind it and every detail was thought through. And, as designers, the service and knowledge we received was unparalleled.

So, about that impeccable detail we mentioned… The quality in the hardware, the wood inlay, the fabric selections, the upholstery, and the stunning finishes was exceptional. Our design team ooh-ed and ahh-ed throughout the entire showroom tour.

From French Heritage’s in-stock pieces, to their customizable pieces, to their completely bespoke capabilities… We were in designer heaven.

You can read more about French Heritage in our first post about them! But, for our designer friends and for our clients who get excited by fashion-forward classics, there are three things we want you to know:

1. French Heritage stocks a broad range of product right here in the US.

2. Much of the French Heritage line can be customized!

3. French Heritage can build completely custom pieces to our design specifications. Your own atelier with the same quality French Heritage is known for. As designers, that excites us!

Even though you’ve likely seen French Heritage products in some big retailer’s windows, we are so excited to be sharing them with you from our perspective – the designer’s perspective.

Thanks again to French Heritage for bringing us to High Point this fall… We are fans!

We’ve been working on an amazing home renovation in Laredo to bring an incredibly beautiful one-of-a-kind 70’s style architectural home up-to-date for our modern family. The goal for our Pulp Design Studios client is livable modern warmth with an eclectic flair… But, before we get to the furniture, art, and accessories, we’re hammering out the architectural finishes and details on the jobsite. See a peek of just a few of the pretty little bathroom details we’ve been working on…

Before + After: Ponder Modern Master Bedroom

Pulp Design Studios Ponder Modern, Master Suite 3

We’ve been getting lots of requests to see ‘Before’ photos of our interior design work! It’s hard to see a newly designed space and imagine how it would apply to you or to your life. So, we’ve decided to start doing more of our ‘Before and After’ posts so that you can see how some unassuming and ordinary rooms have been transformed into spaces that reflect the individual style of each of our clients, all while functioning splendidly for each of their lifestyles!

Pulp Design Studios Ponder Modern Bed Before and After

What started as a simple space that was not at all reflective of our client’s stylish and vibrant personality, is now a haven that she can turn to each day for relaxation and to set the tone for her day.

Pulp Design Studios Ponder Modern Bedroom Before and After

We played with the layout of the space and moved the open desk (complete with messy papers and work) to the other side of the room. We gave our client a concealed secratary-style desk that would allow her to close down her work and conceal the mess.

We also reupholstered her existing chairs to make them pop and exude our client’s happy personality.

This transformation helps showcase how a run-of-the mill room can be transformed with a keen design eye, a bit of clever repurposing, and thought behind how our client and homeowner functions. This simple bit of styling (we didn’t even paint!) made a world of difference on this budget project.

Before + After: Queen Anne Craftsman Dining Room

‘Transformation’ is one of the most amazing things about what we do at Pulp Design Studios… A lackluster room can be transformed into your favorite space in the house with a keen eye and great design talent. We shared with you recently that a project we are working on, our Queen Anne Craftsman Residence, was recently featured in Seattle Magazine. We are not complete with the project yet, but we love that we caught the editor’s eye on our instagram account and were able to allow them into the home to see the progress we’ve made so far.

One of our favorite transformations is the Dining Room! Take a look at what we did with the space…

Quite the transformation, don’t you think!? We brightened the entire space and made it more useable and functional for this family who entertains in their home, including using wipeable and cleanable fabrics. That’s right, this dining room is more than just a pretty face… It’s designed for our client’s lifestyle!

Pulp Sourcebook: #Cowtown Chic Guest Bedroom

Interior Design by Pulp Design Studios

In today’s Sourcebook series entry, we’re highlighting one of Pulp Design Studios’ #Cowtown Chic Guest Bedrooms.  With the design team’s background in hospitality and hotel design, Pulp Design Studios selected just the right mix of color, furnishings and accessories to create a beautiful and relaxing stay for any guest.

By selecting a cool gray wall color and contrasting with bold orange and turquoise accents, Pulp Design Studios kept the space from feeling too ethereal.  Creating custom designed pieces and redesigning special heirlooms made this space truly unique and individual to the client.

Whether you just love what we do and want to create it for yourself or you have a space that you’d love to get the ‘Pulp Treatment’, we hope that his series inspires you to live more beautifully.  And if you’d like to hire us (And, really…you should hire us!  wink. wink.) get in touch and tell us about your project!

Note: Color is in essence, reflections of light and one’s surroundings.  As a result, the color you see in our client’s space would certainly translate differently into your own.  If you are not working with a designer, play with paint samples on various walls in your own space to see if you get the effect you want.  We would also be glad to provide you with a consultation if that would be valuable.  We want your space to reflect its own beauty and your style.

Pulp Design Studios is creating interest and drama in this #BeaconHillContemporary residence by layering moody shades of gray, pewter and onyx with splashes of metallics and natural wood elements.  We’re at the stage of selecting and adding the finishing touches and accessories, and in some cases exercising restraint in keeping things simple. We can’t wait to show you how the final details come together…
