The Pulp Edit: July 2017

July has been full of spaces with a creative and vibrant flair here at Pulp. With summer in full swing, we rounded up our top 10 interior design trends of July 2017…

Bien Fait In the Wild Wallcovering

This wallcovering from Bien Fait is the definition of a design element with a flair for the unexpected. The captivating illustration feels straight out of an enchanting children’s book, but is so striking we could see it in a space for adults or youth.

Pulp Edit Dynamic Ceiling from Nobu

The dynamic floor-to-celing design of Nobu’s relocated New York location has us wanting to make a trip back to the city. Photographed by Eric Laignel in Interior Design‘s June 2017 issue, the paneled ceiling leaves no inch of the space untouched, demonstrating just how powerful bold design can be.

Pulp Edit Layered Asymmetry Elle Decor

We love the way the layered asymmetry in this room designed by Herdandez Greene gives the space a curated artisan feel. The geometric wallcovering paired with various sized artwork creates contrast that draws the eye, but still feels cohesive. We discovered this stunning room photographed by Peter Murdoch in House Beautiful May 2017.

Pulp Edit Whimsical Forms in Children's Room

We featured frameless furniture in last month’s Pulp Edit and were instantly obsessed when we found this kid’s room in Domino Magazine. The whimsical details sprinkled throughout the space set the perfect tone for an imaginative children’s room. This photo by Skye Parrot is sure to inspire.

Pulp Edit Spotlight Artist

Spotted in Elle Decor, this piece by Helen Frankenthaler is an intriguing abstractionist representation of a natural landscape. We approach design with an eye for adventure, artisan pieces and all things with a flair for the unexpected which has us loving abstract art.

Pulp Edit, side table by Grain

These side tables, crafted in the Pacific Northwest by Chelsea and James Minola and featured in Interior Design June 2017, are simply amazing. Not only do they offer ample surface space for organization, but the modern design is truly something you cannot find elsewhere. Definitely a piece to spark conversation…

Pulp Edit Home Gallery Architectural Digest

A house built to display an art collection — we couldn’t love it more. We love working with clients who have collection impressive artwork over the years. Creating a gallery feel in your home makes the entire space exude sophistication. Featured in August’s issue of Architectural Digest and photographed by François Dischinger, this striking image is awe-inspiring.

 Pulp Edit Schumacher Wallcovering
From the color to the pattern, our design team has been all over this wallcovering by Celerie Kemble. It’s no secret that we love designing walls that make a statement, so it was love at first sight when we laid eyes on this wallcovering.

Pulp Edit Katherine Bradford
While this piece is entitled “Fear of Waves” it has us wanting to jump into the ocean and swim in the sun more than ever. Bradford’s use of color and expression of human form is captivating and makes for a collection of pieces we would love to use in our clients’ homes.  Bradford was recently featured in a piece by Julie Belcove in the July/August issue of Elle Decor.

Pulp Edit Modern Ceramics by Paola Paronetto
Paola Paronetto’s ceramic creations are like nothing we have seen before. Her use of texture, form and material make for artisan ceramics that would both draw attention to and complete a contemporary space. We are always sourcing unique art, like these modern bottles, to use in our designs. Paronetto’s pieces were featured in the June 2017 issue of Interior Design.

Business of Design — Preparing for an Install

The installation is one of the most exciting parts of the design process. Installs are a lot of work and often result in long + busy days, but are the time when both our team and our interior design clients get to see their spaces come together. While the finished result is always worth it, there is a lot of physical work that goes into preparing and transforming a space. For our clients + design friends, this is our guide to preparing for your interior design install…

remove any furnishings and rugs that will not remain in the room . The install and delivery crew can assist with this, but will lead to a longer service time. Take advantage of the newly cleared space by vacuuming or sweeping to allow for new rugs and large furnishing pieces. For kid's rooms and play spaces, we recommend clearing any toys from the floor to prevent injury to the install crew. Let us know where you'd prefer the delivery truck and crew park for the duration of the install. The closer to your home we can park, the better. Keep the number of stairs and doorways in mind- fewer obstacles helps expedite the installation process. The installation is part of our full service design process. that means we will take care of everything from the beginning to end, and you can sit back and relax. You are welcome to be in or out of the house as long as we can gain entry to the home. We are just as excited as you are to see your designs come to life. Have questions? Send them our way. pulpdesignstudios.com

The 14 Things You Need in Your Guest Room

A beautifully designed home can (and should) be enjoyed by more than just the people who live in it. After all, everyone is after the perfect home for entertaining. Many of our interior design clients come to us wanting to vamp up not only the spaces they live in most, but also the areas of the home enjoyed by guests. Guest rooms should not be overlooked — it’s the perfect opportunity to have a some extra fun in your design and source little treats for visitors.  From our own homes to those of our clients, we love curating guest spaces. Our essentials for the perfected guest room…

A Guide to Hotel-Style Hospitality at Home

  1. A cheeky welcome. Pick out a fun card or print to welcome your guests. It’s the perfect spot to leave a nice note and, of course, the wifi password. Sharing the love really means sharing the wifi these days. Plus, everyone loves receiving personal notes.
  2. Refreshments + snacks. A carafe of water and an assortment of snacks or sweet treats are essential. Not only is it thoughtful, but any visitor will be excited to find chocolates or small bites to keep their spirits going.
  3. Freshen up. Every guest room needs luxury sheets and all the necessary fresh linens.   Adding a room or linen spray adds an extra boost of luxury and keeps the space smelling divine.
  4. Provide the essentials… and then some. We are all bound to forget things when we travel. Keep the essentials, like extra toothbrushes,  toothpaste and shampoo + conditioner, in an easily attainable place so your guest doesn’t have to search. We love adding an extra canister filled with travel and sample size beauty + personal care goodies for our guests to pamper themselves with.
  5. Storage is key. Visitors come with baggage. Instead of a traditional luggage rack, add a stylish bench for your guests to store their bags. It creates a finished feel in the room, and also leaves a cute spot to place luggage. Make sure the room is equipped with hangers to keep all their stylish pieces wrinkle free.
  6. Go the extra mile. We love adding extra luxuries that elevate the experience and make life a lot easier. Plush bathrobes are a go-to when making a guest room feel like a stay in a five star hotel. Don’t forget the little things we all need to make it through the day, like charging stations for electronics.
