Watch: Designing for Travel + Adventure

We frequently work with interior design clients who have extensive travel experience and collections of beautiful treasurers they found along the way. There is no better way to design with a sense of adventure than to bring a global and personal flair into the spaces we transform for our client. We sat down to share how we integrate our clients’ globally found collections into our designs.

Business of Design — Preparing for an Install

The installation is one of the most exciting parts of the design process. Installs are a lot of work and often result in long + busy days, but are the time when both our team and our interior design clients get to see their spaces come together. While the finished result is always worth it, there is a lot of physical work that goes into preparing and transforming a space. For our clients + design friends, this is our guide to preparing for your interior design install…

remove any furnishings and rugs that will not remain in the room . The install and delivery crew can assist with this, but will lead to a longer service time. Take advantage of the newly cleared space by vacuuming or sweeping to allow for new rugs and large furnishing pieces. For kid's rooms and play spaces, we recommend clearing any toys from the floor to prevent injury to the install crew. Let us know where you'd prefer the delivery truck and crew park for the duration of the install. The closer to your home we can park, the better. Keep the number of stairs and doorways in mind- fewer obstacles helps expedite the installation process. The installation is part of our full service design process. that means we will take care of everything from the beginning to end, and you can sit back and relax. You are welcome to be in or out of the house as long as we can gain entry to the home. We are just as excited as you are to see your designs come to life. Have questions? Send them our way. pulpdesignstudios.com

The 14 Things You Need in Your Guest Room

A beautifully designed home can (and should) be enjoyed by more than just the people who live in it. After all, everyone is after the perfect home for entertaining. Many of our interior design clients come to us wanting to vamp up not only the spaces they live in most, but also the areas of the home enjoyed by guests. Guest rooms should not be overlooked — it’s the perfect opportunity to have a some extra fun in your design and source little treats for visitors.  From our own homes to those of our clients, we love curating guest spaces. Our essentials for the perfected guest room…

A Guide to Hotel-Style Hospitality at Home

  1. A cheeky welcome. Pick out a fun card or print to welcome your guests. It’s the perfect spot to leave a nice note and, of course, the wifi password. Sharing the love really means sharing the wifi these days. Plus, everyone loves receiving personal notes.
  2. Refreshments + snacks. A carafe of water and an assortment of snacks or sweet treats are essential. Not only is it thoughtful, but any visitor will be excited to find chocolates or small bites to keep their spirits going.
  3. Freshen up. Every guest room needs luxury sheets and all the necessary fresh linens.   Adding a room or linen spray adds an extra boost of luxury and keeps the space smelling divine.
  4. Provide the essentials… and then some. We are all bound to forget things when we travel. Keep the essentials, like extra toothbrushes,  toothpaste and shampoo + conditioner, in an easily attainable place so your guest doesn’t have to search. We love adding an extra canister filled with travel and sample size beauty + personal care goodies for our guests to pamper themselves with.
  5. Storage is key. Visitors come with baggage. Instead of a traditional luggage rack, add a stylish bench for your guests to store their bags. It creates a finished feel in the room, and also leaves a cute spot to place luggage. Make sure the room is equipped with hangers to keep all their stylish pieces wrinkle free.
  6. Go the extra mile. We love adding extra luxuries that elevate the experience and make life a lot easier. Plush bathrobes are a go-to when making a guest room feel like a stay in a five star hotel. Don’t forget the little things we all need to make it through the day, like charging stations for electronics.

Interior Trend — Global Tile

We love bringing global inspiration into design in a bold way. After all, the most beautiful spaces happen when design turns into a daring adventure itself. From backsplashes, to flooring, to vibrant statement walls, global tile is captivating and a go-to when designing a space with a flair for the unexpected. We’ve seen this trend popping up everywhere (it even made it into our recent Anise Kitchen + Market project). We rounded up eight of our favorite global inspired tiles on the market…

The Jetsetter’s Guide to Luxurious Travel

During the summer months, our team and interior design clients find themselves dashing through airports more than ever. Whether it’s to catch a flight to a work conference or to a Mediterranean escape, we are all spending a lot of time on planes, trains, and automobiles these days. Between collaborating through our Seattle and Dallas offices and trying to squeeze in a little vacation time when possible, we have gathered a few travel tips that always seem to make those long flights and hotel rooms a bit more luxurious. Our expert tips for luxurious travel…

Designer Tips for Luxe Travel

1. Soothing sounds. A quality pair of headphones with great sound are essential. Whether we are catching up on the next chapter of a book or listening to a relaxing playlist, these are always in our travel bags.

2. Stay hydrated. Traveling sucks the life out of you…and your skin. Staying hydrated is imperative during travel —  you’ll have more energy and your skin will thank you. We love a good hydrating facial mist to refresh and add a little glow. Add a sheet mask to your travel bag for a deep treatment while you unwind in the hotel.

3. Sleep in style.  We always select quality bedding materials for our clients’ bedrooms, so packing a pure silk pillowcase and pajamas for the beauty sleep of your dreams is the perfect way to incorporate splendid living into your travels.

4. Candles are key. We always bring a travel candle along on trips. It creates a sense of familiarity and comfort no matter where you find yourself (and also makes the room smell amazing).

5. Get organized. Traveling for work, we always need to keep track of our travel documents, receipts and paperwork.  A leather travel wallet is a staple item for all of our design team.

6. Cozy up, settle in. We both like to be cozy on flights, which means a soft travel sized throw to keep you warm. Get settled in and relax for the flight — treat yourself to your favorite cocktail and put on your favorite playlist.

8 Tips for Creating the Perfect Vanity

Creating the perfect oasis inside your home is essential to zen and well-being. We love creating spa-like baths inside our interior design clients’ homes — personalizing these spaces even further can be the key to making the perfect place to unwind.

In our Lakehouse Retreat master bathroom, we created a vanity ideal for our client to have some space to herself. It’s global-influenced and filled with found objects from our client’s travels. Making an oasis is an art — here are our favorite tips for creating the perfect vanity.

An Expert Guide to the Perfect Vanity

1. Comfortable seating. Being able to get comfortable at your vanity is reliant on choosing the right seating. Stools are always a good choice — being able to tuck away your seating when it’s not in use makes the space more efficient. Choose wipeable and cleanable pieces that last through face masks and makeup spills.

2. Beautiful and efficient storage. Your vanity instantly becomes more peaceful and calming when organized. Put all of your small essentials — think cotton balls and vitamins — into gorgeous jars for storage, then use trays and boxes to sort items like deodorant and toothpaste.

3. Plush rugs. Having a plush rug in the space can be the difference between an oasis and a work station — imagine that soft material against your feet! Just make sure to buy a cleanable and wipeable material.

4. Personalize your space. Add dual-function accessories to brighten up the space — a vase can perfectly double as a bangle holder while a gorgeous bowl can keep your makeup brushes organized.

5. Get the lighting right. For optimal vanity lighting, opt for eye level sconces to perfectly illuminate your face. If you don’t have these, a beautiful countertop lamp makes a great substitute. Lighting is everything, ladies.

6. Elegant displays for your skincare necessities. Don’t be afraid to display your skincare products on the countertop — keep the chaos contained by arranging your go-to serums on an elegant tray. Pretty little touches of organization are the perfect way to keep your necessities within arms reach while adding a little style.

7. Brighten up your mood with fresh flowers in vases. Keep gorgeous vases on your vanity for an instant mood booster. The floral scent will wake you up in the morning and help you relax before bed.

8. Keep a pair of slippers on hand. Store your slippers next to your vanity — keep your toes warm while applying your makeup in the morning and add that extra element of luxury to your routine.

Mark G Gold Leaf Desk (contact Pulp to purchase) | 6.  Prism Rug | 7. DuPont Faux Shagreen Pouf | 8. Snail Shell Container | 9. Piedmont Vase | 10. Patricia Green Glam Scuff Slipper

Comfortable and chic is the way to go when creating your perfect vanity — find the perfect balance between personalized, inviting elements and plush-yet-luxurious pieces.
