Snoqualmie Ridge Bathroom Renovation

We recently showcased our Snoqualmie Ridge project on the blog, including a quick highlight of the primary bathroom. The overall home received our exclusive microrenovation service, but the bathroom was fully remodeled. It was such an amazing transformation that we wanted to walk you through the before-and-after photos. Let’s go!

As you can see in the before photos above, this primary bathroom was crowded, awkwardly shaped, and DARK. We really wanted to open it up and bring life and luxury to the space. As you can see below, we used a grasscloth wallcovering with a simple but modern pattern to add warmth and texture in the room. The clients wanted to stick with dark woods, since those are featured in the rest of the house, and this wallpaper proved to be a great contrast with those darker finishes. Then we added a freestanding tub with a sleek shape. That helped to create much-needed air and space in the bathroom. A final touch of shine came from our own Starburst Pulls on the front of the cabinetry.

The old shower above was separated from the rest of the bathroom and felt very crowded in a tiny corner. So we made the shower the statement piece of this bathroom, which our clients loved! To give the room a spa feel, we included a steam shower that not only adds to the luxe look, but also has great health benefits. This turned out to be a total self-care and wellness space for our clients, rather than just a bathroom.

There was an original vanity in the primary bathroom, and we wanted to keep that functional space for our clients. We updated the cabinetry to match the more modern look in the space, and added a chic velvet stool for even more functionality.

Isn’t that a stunning bathroom renovation? We love being able to create spaces that are gorgeous and that offer the functionality that our clients need in their homes. Need a renovation or our special microrenovation service? Contact us today!

The outdoor living area is a stunning retreat with views of the mountains, the Pulp Home’s two pet palm trees and a large resident rubber duck. This Talisman Loop Sconce is stunning and I would love to incorporate it into one of our projects. With such amazing detail, this fixture can double as an art piece in someones home!

Snoqualmie Ridge Home Tour

This micro-renovation was one of our favorites and we are in love with how it turned out for our amazing clients! These clients are a family of four with school aged children who were ready to elevate their home into something modern and elegant. The home was beautiful when we started, but felt a little builder-standard, and our clients wanted something that was a better reflection of them. Rather than take on a complete renovation, we strategized an overhaul with wallcovering, furnishings and accessories, and chose a few select spaces to renovate completely: The Primary Bathroom and the Fireplaces. Sometimes you don’t need to start from scratch, and instead make smart choices that make the most impact. Check out the project in our portfolio!

When you walk into a home the entry is the first glance of what the rest of the house is going to look like. Since this entry is filled with high ceilings and a grand staircase, we wanted to create a sense of entry with furnishings that felt warm and layered.

The Office, which is right off the Entry, is a great example of how a little can go a long way. We kept some of the existing furniture and left the paneling details. We simply added textured customized wallcovering, patterned drapery and new, more modern, desk to give the room the character our clients were looking for. The result is a collected and handsome  functional workspace.

Designing for our clients’ loves and tastes, in an elevated way is a huge part of what we do. Our client is a major New Orleans Saints fan, and he wanted to include that into the office, which his wife was not fond of. We surprised our clients with peek-a-boo pillows that had embroidered New Orleans Saints logos that can be flipped when guests arrive. Our client’s loved this compromise and it was a great way to incorporate his love for the team without overpowering the space.

The goal of the Formal Living Room was to create an area the family and guests can gather as a listening room, which features their beautiful grand piano. We wanted this room to feel comfortable and beautiful, while still capturing the grandiose mountain views. We added elongated drapery panels to frame these gorgeous mountain views and add a layer of softness to the space. With some subtle pops of blue, cozy velvets, and beautifully appointed patterns and textures, this room is a great space for the family to enjoy and activate these typically unused spaces.

The Powder Bath had just been overhauled by their former designer, but we wanted to make it a little more modern. With an easy swap of the light fixture and a fun transitional wallcovering, we gave this jewel box powder bath a whole new life.

The Primary Suite is perhaps the biggest overhaul of the home. While the Bedroom got new furnishings and gorgeous layers of grasscloth and patterned wallcovering and drapery, the Primary Bathroom got a full renovation. Our goal was to elevate the and transform the Bathroom into our clients own personal spa. When we started, the bathroom was dark and crowded. We opened up the bathroom by knocking down walls adding a freestanding bathtub. The finishes and fixtures were modernized and we added some amazing tech to the bathroom for a true spa experience. A steam shower and smart toilet can do wonders for your daily experience, while adding some amazing value to the home. And, of course, we added a touch of Pulp with our starburst pulls to the vanities!

Another designer had renovated their kitchen previously, which was a great start to the space and really opened it up! Our clients were looking to further elevate the space and add some personal touches. With new light fixtures and simple accessories we really made the space more fluid with the rest of the home.

The second part of the renovation was to the fireplace in the family room! It was previously dark and drab, clad with heavy stone. Our clients really wanted to lighten up the space! We brightened it all up with paint and designed a stunning modern quartzite fireplace, that is a showstopper within this room. We added a subtle grasscloth to the backs of the bookcases, which helped warm the room and create an anchor to tie in with the kitchen. We used most of the client’s personal items, such as some family photos and existing accessories to really make it feel like home.

In the Dining Room our clients wanted to use many of their existing family heirlooms! But, since it all felt very heavy and overpowered the room, we suggested new chairs and some wallcovering to open the space up. White creamy chairs may be intimidating to some because of spills that may occur, but we made sure to incorporate a durable cleanable fabric on the seat and then added a custom embroidered textile on the back of the chairs for style as you approach the dining room. The wallcovering, though, is probably the biggest showstopper! It added a ton of character to our clients’ Dining Room!

And, of course, we can’t forget to have a little fun! Our client’s had a Game Room upstairs that felt like dark and unwelcoming. We transformed it, through furnishings and wallcovering, into a space that the whole family wants to hang out. Like we said, our clients are huge sports fans, so we wanted to incorporate all their sports memorabilia in this space. We custom framed our client’s pennant flags in acrylic to give a modern and clean look to all their favorite teams. We love how the wallcovering, furnishings and accessories can completely change the look and feel of a home.

Our clients’ are thrilled with their new space and they’ve even called us back to overhaul one of their other investment properties. We love when our client’s trust us, keep calling us back, and refer us to their friends. It’s the biggest form of flattery and we just love our clients!

Pulp’s Top 5 Design Trends for 2022

Every year, the Pulp duo is asked what they think will be the top interior design trends for the coming year. Co-founders Beth Dotolo and Carolina Gentry are known for being ahead of the curve, with interiors that push the design envelope. So they can see a trend heading home before most people detect it. We asked them to give us a peek into what they say will be impacting interior design this year!

A Return to Opulence

After years of white paint and cozy or hygge design, there is an urge to break out of the neutral box and move to maximalism. More exuberant colors and glam details will mark this trend, as you can see in Pulp’s “Sinner’s Lounge,” created for the Kips Bay Dallas Showhouse. “People are craving a richness and layering in their spaces again,” Beth says. Look for metallic finishes, deep and darker paints, adventurous motifs, unusual materials, and luxe textiles like velvets.

Peak-A-Boo Spaces

Now you see it, now you don’t! This trend is a response to a need to take advantage of every single square inch of space in a home. You can have a very large house, but when you’re spending so much time in it with family and pets, those spaces can begin to feel very small. The Pulp team are experts at creative solutions for space issues, says Carolina. “We’re designing hidden spaces for flexibility, adaptability, and added separation.” Look for hidden doors, glam reveals, and out-of-the-box ideas.

Architectural Curves

For many cultures, arches and curved ceilings are symbolic. They are seen as protection and an idea of moving forward in life. Given how the last two years have gone, that may be why the Pulp duo sees these architectural curves gaining in popularity! “There’s something comforting about a gentle curve, as opposed to sharp lines,” Beth says. That’s true of the bathroom the Pulp team designed for the Kips Bay Dallas Showhouse, seen above. There’s also a chic sophistication to the sweep of that wall line. Look for barrel ceilings, curved arches for entries, and curving staircases.

Darker Kitchens

White kitchens are timeless and classic, but they can sometimes be boring, too. The trend toward deeper and moodier paint colors is fueling the idea of kitchens with darker wood tones, strong cabinet colors, and far less white. “We love that sense of drama in the kitchen,” Carolina says. “We’re seeing a move toward more pattern, dark navy, deep black, or forest green in the kitchen.” Look for black stainless appliances, pattern mixing, and a mix of moody wood tones.

Tactile Texture

It’s interesting how many trends are inspired by global events. When we need comfort in our lives, tactile textures become incredibly important in the home. There’s a return to anything that feels soft or has a texture that’s intriguing. In Pulp’s Kips Bay Dallas Showhouse, texture was the focus, including a hair-on-hide rug, cozy velvets, wood grains, polished metals, dimensional art, and soft draperies.

Seattle Modern Bungalow Home Tour

We love to show off our projects, especially ones that turn out this fabulous! This Seattle home renovation was so fun to see the transformation of a dark interior to a bright, colorful, and full of pattern home. Be sure to head over to our portfolio page for some interactive before and after galleries. This hidden house needed to be brightened up with some paint, wallcovering and colorful fabrics. Playing with colors and patterns is one of our favorite things to do, so when a client is requesting it, we let our creative minds run!

THE KITCHEN

The main goal of this kitchen was to brighten it and bring some much needed color to the space. When we first started on this project, the cabinets were dark brown and made the space feel very heavy. We overhauled it with a fresh coat of paint, new countertops, and tile. The combination of fresh white countertops and brighter upper cabinets, with the deep blue lower cabinets, made this kitchen stunning. It completely opened up the space and brought amazing natural light to this room, making it feel happy and functional.

THE BREAKFAST NOOK

When we saw this breakfast nook, we knew we had to make it feel like part of the kitchen and bring a little life and joy in. We added a Fireclay custom tile installation with variations of blue and a bright statement chandelier. The blue leaning kitchen and breakfast space are now super inviting and feel like a great way to start and end each day with their family.

THE DINING ROOM

Transitioning from the blue Kitchen and Breakfast Nook, we incorporated these stunning persimmon dining chairs for another amazing pop of color. Along with the bleached wood dining table, the home owners can host intimate gatherings with their guests. This is another room that needed brightening and the solution, paint! We painted the walls and trim tonal shades of white and framed the tree-top views with a dark brown at the window mullions. It instantly brought beautiful light to the dining room and brings an element of cleanness to this space.

THE SUN ROOM

Even Seattle homes have to have sun rooms! This came out stunning not only because of the view, but also the design elements we included. The velvety soft Mitchel Gold Bob Williams couch is a great statement for this corner of the house. We of course had to make sure we chose a performance fabric that wouldn’t fade in the sun, and this was a great choice for the sofa. Everything about this nook would make me want to curl up with a good book and lounge. We even added a little functional jewelry for reading with a lit pendant, complete with custom cord scrunchie in our Pulp for S. Harris fabric. Charming!

THE LIVING ROOM

All of the colors, patterns and textures are what make this room so stunning. We chose this detailed black and white wallcovering from Cole & Sons that brings great contrast to a room full of color. The pops of jewel colors within the room were per the owners request, but brings such a fun color palette to the room. The clients requested a sofa that they could sit at head to foot together and read and talk… is that not the sweetest?! They asked and we provided! We also designed in a pair of petite swivels for extra seating while entertaining or for enjoying the fire.

THE INGLENOOK FIREPLACE

This is such a unique feature that many modern homes don’t have and in this home is the center axis. An inglenook fireplace is the statement of the living room. The clients spent a year on the tile selections before we came on board and we wanted to highlight it and find a way to make the tile work in the new design scheme. We enhanced the inglenook with dark brown paint and it really made the existing tile stand out.

THE MEDIA ROOM/GUEST ROOM

We wanted to make the media room cohesive with the living room, since it is an open concept, but with the hide-a-way door it gives an option of privacy. This also doubles as a guest room with a pull out sofa, perfect for any visitors. We love to incorporate Pulp fabrics into all of our projects and this room features two from our Pulp for S.Harris collection. We love to see how we can use our fabrics in different ways for each project!

Founders’ Five: 10 Items That We Are Loving This Month

Here are some of our current favorite finds that we want or that are making our lives better and more stylish, right now…

BETH’S PICKS

I love the look of this oil burner from Goop. I think everyone should invest in good smells for their home, so this is perfect and would also be a great gift!

If you’re like me, I need to visualize my outfits before packing for any trip. This CB2 clothing rack is the best tool to plan all my outfits and helps me not to overpack.

I recently found this company Blacksaw, which has the best throws! I love the simplicity of patterns and colors they have, and not to mention they’re all made out of Alpaca fur.

I don’t know about everyone else, but dry shampoo is an absolute must for me! I have heard great things about this dry shampoo powder, and I can’t wait to see how it works compared to other ones I’ve tried.

This fabulously chic basketball hoop from CB2 would be a great piece in anyone’s home or game room. I love how you could incorporate this into a home without it standing out in the space.

CAROLINA’S PICKS

This salt cellar is not only a great storage place for your salt but also doubles as a stylish kitchen accessory. I love finding unique kitchen tools that can also bring a fun look to the space.

I love the color of this necklace and how it ties together any outfit. The unique chain holds a beautiful Chalcedony Scarab along with other stunning stones.

You know I love a good cookbook, and I highly recommend this one! It is a great mix of traditional cooking with some modern twists that result in some amazing recipes.

I’m always looking for a good vase and I’m obsessed with the shape of this one. Claude has some very unique and creative vases that would be a great accessory in any home!

Who doesn’t want some fun coasters in their house? I love that these have a modern look with a fun twist with bold text and a pop of gold.

The Art of “Hiding” Your TV

For years there’s been a debate about whether to hide the television in a cabinet or in some other clever way, or to leave it as a big black square in the room. Designers are always looking for ways to cover up the “black hole” of a TV so the room has a cohesive design, but it isn’t always possible. Now there’s a TV available that solves the design dilemma, and even enhances it!

Samsung’s Frame TV is a high-resolution QLED TV when it’s turned on, and it’s a beautiful piece of framed art when it’s off. You can see in the photo above that it’s hard to tell which of the framed pieces is the TV!

The Samsung Frame is so fabulous that Pulp co-founder Carolina Gentry bought them for her own home.

You can select from several frames for the television, giving you a lot of options for either matching frames in the room, or complementing them with a great coordinating look.

And with 1,200 available pieces of art, you can find a look that’s inspiring and mesmerizing! Art is available from iconic institutions like Museo del Prado, the Victoria & Albert museum, Artspace, Saatchi Art, Minted, and more. You can change up the art to suit your mood or the decor – the options are up to you.

The technology is also cutting edge since it’s a Smart TV that offers the highest-quality picture and sound. It also offers tap view, voice controls, multi-views and an eco remote. Accessories include an easel, a customizable wall with shelving, and hidden wiring. With looks AND smarts, we’ll be recommending this design solution to our own clients!
